A fixed set of defined Quality of Life domainsQOL domains is factors comprising personal well-
being. The set of domains represents the range over
which the QOL consept extends and thus define quality of life
A number of indicators for each domainQOL-related perceptions, behaviors and
conditions that give an indication of a person’s well-being
Includes both elements that are important for the person and what are important to the person

A defined set for all
Personal indicators based on what is important to and for the person
Emotional well-being Physical well-being Self-determination Interpersonal relations Social inclusion Personal development Material well-being Rights
What’s Important TO the person:Only what the person tells us with their
words or behavior. When what people say and what they do
is different, we rely on the behavior. This is not what others think should be
important to the person.
What’s important FOR the person:Only the things that help us to be:Healthy and SafeA valued member of the community
Social indicators generally refer to fixed external or environmentally indicators, based on conditions such as health, social welfare, friendships, standard of living, education, employment rate….Such indicators are good for measuring the
collective quality of community or national life; however they are insufficient to measure an individual’s percerved personal well-being or quality outcomes from rehabilitation programs
‘Campell, Converse and Rogers’ argue that social indicators reflect only an outsider’s judgment of quality as suggested by external, environmentally based conditions.
Personal indicators focus on the individual and those factors that contribute to what is important to and for the individual person.
Personal indicators are person-defined and valued QOL aspirations
Personal indicators are defined within the context of QOL domains
Groups of 3 persons Time 45 minutes Discuss and identify examples of indicators for the different QOL domains (what
observations can tell you if the different domains are safeguarded for an individual)
Write down your exaples of indicators
Group 1: Edite Sobrinho, Liina Teesalu, Christina- Maria Karampela Group 2: Natalja Markovskaja, Theofani Tsimpourlaki, Tita Destovnik Group 3: Ingvill Hersvik, Mina Kyziridi, Valentina Brecelj
Systems are designed to improve the quality of the organisation or society, rather than the individual service user
Results are used for comparison between individuals, departments and organisations/communities
The informants are often anonymous The measurement takes place after services are delivered
The individual is the point of reference in personal outcomes, and any comparison should be WITHIN the person and not between individuals
What is of relevance for the service user is the improvement of QOL as he or she defines QOL for him or her self
Measuring QOL is an ongoing process thru the period of service delivery

indicators for QOL
For your organization the goal might be to get people employed.
To the service user it’s not the job it self, but the benefits from having a job that matter . By focusing on this, service users can find
motivation and strength to make a change in their life.
