R.T.E 2 - will broadcast “school on T.V.” each day Monday to Friday from 11 until 12. The show will be aimed at primary school children. They will also have it available on R.T.E Player so you can catch up if you miss an episode. P.E. *You might like to become more flexible with this fun youtube clip to teach you some yoga poses. We only need to answer B Q. 1 & 2 on this page In Maths the word “Capacity” means the amount of liquid (volume) that a container can hold. In other words, capacity is all about measuring how much liquid is in a container.

In Europe we measure capacity with ml (millilitres) and L (litres).

Memorise these facts - 1 litre = 1,000ml

Let’s get Practical !Beware - the next activity might get a little messy so take it outside into the garden, near an outside tap.

You will need: A measuring jug with ml / L marked on the side

A saucepan

B - Here we are using a decimal point to separate the Litres from

the millilitres. Remember 1 L = 1,000ml. Q.1 is asking you to write litres with a decimal point

WARNING - THIS CAN GET TRICKY! 😉

The best way to do this is to make sure that you have 3 digits after the decimal point. It stops all the confusion.

So if the sum says 4.53 L You can change it to 4.530 L It’s still the same amount, just easier to work with.

For example Q.2 a) 4.530 L = 4L 530 ml If you didn’t have the 3 digits you might think it was 4 L 53 ml and that

would be wrong!

Here’s another one:

Q.2 b) 2.56L = Change it to 2.560L Correct Ans: 2L 560ml ……………….. (Wrong answer would be 2L 56ml ) So when we are working with Litres & ml and we are using a decimal point, we always make sure to have 3 digits after the decimal point. The extra zero at the end doesn’t change the value of the number, it just makes life easier for us! Phew!

Q.3 The rule for x decimals is to multiply as normal. Then count how many digits are after the decimal point in the sum and leave the same number after the decimal point in the answer.

Think about all the decisions you have made since you got up this morning.

Now think of all the decisions you will make throughout the day all the way up to when you go to bed tonight.

Our days are filled with decision making. Many of the decisions you make throughout the day will require little thought. These things we do almost automatically.Can you think of any examples of these kinds of decisions?Some decisions are made for you by people like parents and teachers and the government. For example, whether we go to school or not, whether to sit or stand in class and lots more.Can you think of other times when decisions are made for you?There are lots of things which help us to make decisions

Mandala Art:

The word ‘Mandala’ is from the classical Indian language of Sanskrit, loosely translated to mean ‘circle’. A mandala is far more than a simple shape. We can find mandalas in nature. Examples of mandalas in nature are daisies, oranges, onions, the iris of your eye, starfish etc.

Make a Flower Suncatcher Mandala.Materials:

Paper Plates

Scissors

Transparent contact paper (the sticky clear covering used to cover books works well)

Flowers and leaves

Markers

Hole punch

Wool/ string

Step 1.

Create the flower suncatcher frame.

Begin by making a frame for your flower suncatcher by cutting out the flat centre of your paper plate.

Step 2.

Then cut a circle from transparent contact paper to fit over the opening and attach it at the back of your paper plate with the sticky side facing the front of your plate.

(overlapping the paper plate by about 2 cm)

Step 3.

Press flower petals and leaves onto the sticky contact paper.Arrange flower petals, petal pieces and leaves in outwardly concentric designs, circles, arcs, or other shapes which share the same centre, the larger often surrounding the smaller) on contact

paper to create your mandalas.

Step 4.

Add another piece of contact paper over the top to protect and hold the flower design in place.

Step 5.

Hang the flower mandala suncatcher.

Punch a hole at the top of the frame and tie a loop of string or wool at the top of the frame for hanging.

You can make a mandala from any object, even on the beach using pebbles.

Give it a go, see how many different materials you can use and designs you can come up with. 😊
