VE day activities Friday 8 th May 2020 marks a significant day in British history, it is 75 years since VE day. this very important day in 1945 marked the end of the Second World War in Europe. To mark this occasion, we would like you to take part in some VE day learning – if possible, please ask parents to take some pictures of your work and e-mail to your teacher so that we can put them on the website. Victory in Europe Day/ VE Day took place on May 8th, 1945. It was a public holiday and day of celebration to mark the defeat of Germany by the Allied forces in World War 2. VE Day marked the formal conclusion of the war with Germany and ended six years of suffering, courage and endurance across the world. Design a poster or create a fact file about VE day, include as much information as you can.

Create a quiz to ask siblings or family members about VE day. Consider the following points and make note of your responses: What is

remembered on VE day? Why do you think it is important to celebrate and recognise VE day? How do you think VE day should be celebrated?

On VE Day, everyone, both in London and at home sitting by their wireless sets, wanted to hear just one man: Winston Churchill. At 3pm the Prime Minister broadcast to the nation. He praised the British spirit and reminded them that this was a victory of the great British nation. Can you find out about Churchill’s speech and recreate it using drama?

Imagine you are a soldier on the front line during WWII, you have just found out that war in Europe is over. Write a diary entry about the experience and how you feel.

Recreate images using a style of art of your choice showing people rejoicing. Below are some images to help with this.
