Penny Catapults
Object: 1) Hit a target with a penny, 2) Distance
Materials:2 plastic spoons, 8 rubber bands 3 pencils 12 Popsicle Sticks, 3 feet of string, 2 Pennies
Important: These are the only materials you will be given. If you lose, break, improperly cut the materials, they will not be replaced. However, you may discard you’re your entire creation for a replacement package, only once!
Catapult Rubric
Essay (worth 20 points)1) 100 – 300 words
a. Tell me about the construction of your catapult.i. Why did you build it that way?
ii. How many design changes did you make?b. 1 point will be deducted for each misspelled word and each grammar errorc. 1 point will be deducted for < 100 words or > 300 words
Graph (worth 10 points)2) Construct a graph of your 50 trials
a. Graph your trials using a graph of your choice.i. Must be labeled properly

Statistics (worth 2 points each)3) What is the Range, Median, Mean & Mode of your data?
Testing 4) Accuracy (6 points)
a. Penny hits target at a minimum distance of 24 inches (one bounce or less)i. 1st try = 6 points
ii. 2 -3 attempts = 5 pointsiii. 4 – 5 attempts = 4 pointsiv. 6 – 7 attempts = 3 pointsv. 8 – 9 attempts = 2 points
vi. 10 attempts or more = 1 point
5) Distance (one attempt only)a. 5 – 10ft = 2 pointsb. 10.1 ft – 15ft = 4 pointsc. 15.1ft or more = 6 pointsd. 7 points will be awarded to the furthest
