Objective: 1. Students will learn pen and ink techniques.2. Students will improve their drawing skills3. Students will be able to break down a complex task into simple steps

Materials needed: Powerpoint Paper Pencils Colored pencils Markers Sharpies Tape

Overview: What is the purpose of this lesson?

Students will create an image that is divided into different sections and use different media and techniques to color it in.

Students will work together in their table groups to discuss the meaning of the vocabulary.

Pre-Assessment: (How will you find out about where your students are at for this lesson? What will your pre-assessment look like?

Students will discuss the vocabulary for the lesson as a whole group. If they do not know the vocabulary I will talk with them about the word and teach them what it means. They will write the words down in their sketchbooks.

Examples:

Steps in the Lesson:Include ideas for whole-class instructions, differentiated activities, guided notes/practice, independent work, engagement strategies, etc…

Day 1: Students will view a powerpoint of their assignment. Students will use tape to create a border around their paper and divide their paper into at least 4 sections. Students will begin to draw their image on top of the tape.

Day 2-4: Students will continue drawing their image.

Day 5-10: Students will begin using different media and different techniques to color in their drawing. When finished, students will complete a self-evaluation.

Formative Assessment Strategies:How will you inform yourself throughout the class period the status of the students’ understanding?

Walk around the room, check for understanding by noting their progress with the lesson and answer any questions students have while they are working.

Closure Activity:This may be a chance to share, or explicit restatement of the goals of the lesson, a summarization opportunity, etc…

A class critique “gallery walk” will be held to allow students to talk about their own work and the work of their classmates
