Grace O’er Sin AboundingMusic: Sandra McCracken

Sovereign grace o’er sin abounding! Ransomed souls, the tidings swell; ‘Tis a deep that knows no sounding; Who its breadth or length can tell?

On its glories, let my soul forever dwell.

What from Christ that soul can sever, Bound by everlasting bands? Once in Him, in Him forever; Thus the eternal covenant stands. None shall take Thee from the Strength of Israel’s hands.

Heirs of God, joint-heirs with Jesus, Long ere time its race begun; To His name eternal praises; O what wonders love has done! One with Jesus, by eternal union one.

On such love, my soul, still ponder, Love so great, so rich, so free; Say, while lost in holy wonder, Why, O Lord, such love to me? Hallelujah! Grace shall reignHallelujah! Grace shall reign Hallelujah! Grace shall reign eternally.

CONFESSION OF SINOur Father, you give us your mercy, but we do not give you our gratitude. You give us your grace, but we do not give you our obedience. You give us your presence, but we do not give you our time. You give us your love, but we do not give you our worship. Forgive us, Father. Our hearts can be so cold and hard. Meet us again with the good news of how you have loved us in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Change us for your glory. We pray in Jesus’ name, Amen.SILENT CONFESSION OF SIN

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S MERCY Psalm 103:8-11

† HYMN OF GOD’S MERCY Thy Mercy, My God

Music: Sandra McCrackenThy mercy, my God, is the theme of my song, The joy of my heart. and the boast of my tongue;

Thy free grace alone, from the first to the last, Hath won my affections, and bound my soul fast.

Without Thy sweet mercy I could not live here; Sin would reduce me to utter despair; But, through Thy free goodness, my spirits revive, And He that first made me still keeps me alive.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

Thy mercy is more than a match for my heart, Which wonders to feel its own hardness depart; Dissolved by Thy goodness, I fall to the ground, And weep to the praise of the mercy I’ve found.

Great Father of mercies, Thy goodness I own, And the covenant love of Thy crucified Son; All praise to the Spirit, Whose whisper divine Seals mercy, and pardon, and righteousness mine. All praise to the Spirit, Whose whisper divine Seals mercy, and pardon, and righteousness mine.

Hallelujah, Hallelujah

CONFESSION OF FAITH from The Belgic Confession, Article 20We believe that God - who is perfectly merciful and also very just - sent his Son to assume the nature in which the disobedience had been committed, in order to bear in it the punishment of sin by his most bitter passion and death. So, God made known his justice toward his Son, who was charged with our sin, and he poured out his goodness and mercy on us, who are guilty and worthy of damnation, giving to us his Son to die, by a most perfect love, and raising him to life for our justification, in order that by him we might have immortality and eternal life.

OLD TESTAMENT READING Exodus 34:4-8 Leader: This is the Word of the Lord. All: Thanks be to God.

WORSHIP THROUGH GIVING † DOXOLOGY AND PRAYER OF THANKSGIVINGImmortal, invisible, God only wise,In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,Almighty, victorious, thy great Name we praise.

SERMON Rev. Hobie Wood1 Timothy 1:12-17 “Mercy Changes Everything”

“12 I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service, 13 though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, 14 and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. 17 To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.”

SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPERGuidelines for Reception of the Lord’s Supper: We welcome all Christians who are trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation, who have been baptized, and who are identified appropriately with a congregation that proclaims the gospel, to participate in the Lord’s Supper. Children who have been examined by the elders and admitted to the Lord’s Table are also invited to partake of this Sacrament. If you are not a Christian, or you are not prepared to share in this sacrament, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer, reflecting on your need for God’s mercy and on his gracious provision of a sin-bearing Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.Note About Partaking: “Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a person examine himself, then, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself.” (1 Corinthians 11:27-29)

Note About Communion Wine: The outer ring of each tray contains wine. The inner rings contain grape juice.

Prayers of Reflection for Those Not PartakingIf you are not able to receive the Lord’s Supper this morning, please use this time to meditate on one of the following prayers.

Prayer for Those Searching for TruthLord Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that you promise. Amen.

Prayer for AwakeningLord Jesus, I have heard teaching from the Bible for years, and have been in church for years, but very little of this even seems real to me. Please show me the reality of what you are saying. Unnerve me with the badness of the bad news. Captivate me with the goodness of the good news. Make what is familiar seem new. Amen.

Prayer of BeliefLord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever before believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared to hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen.

† HYMN OF RESPONSE Behold the Lamb

Music and Lyrics: Keith and Kristyn Getty; Stuart TownendBehold the Lamb who bears our sins away, Slain for us - and we remember The promise made that all who come in faithFind forgiveness at the cross. So we share in this bread of life, And we drink of His sacrifice As a sign of our bonds of peace Around the table of the King.

The body of our Saviour Jesus Christ, Torn for you - eat and remember The wounds that heal, the death that brings us life Paid the price to make us one. So we share in this bread of life,

And we drink of His sacrifice As a sign of our bonds of love Around the table of the King.

The blood that cleanses every stain of sin, Shed for you - drink and remember He drained death’s cup that all may enter in To receive the life of God. So we share in this bread of life, And we drink of His sacrifice As a sign of our bonds of grace Around the table of the King.

And so with thankfulness and faith we rise To respond, - and to remember Our call to follow in the steps of Christ As His body here on earth. As we share in His suffering We proclaim Christ will come again! And we’ll join in the feast of heaven Around the table of the King
