Mega Minds Times #3 11/2/15

Wonderful WordsBy Margaret Chen

The Mega Minds’ brains have wonderful words stored in them! Ever since the beginning of the school year, Mrs. Armbruster has put words to talk about up on a board. Every time a student finds or hears a word, they get to put a tally mark up. Once the word is found 5 times, the word retires. So far the words that have retired are: pursuit, potential, persistent, eavesdrop, conspicuous, uncanny and pertinent.

Sherry Du commented that her favorite word so far is zeal. Jimmy also commented that his favorite word is eavesdrop. Sam Galich says, “There are too many words to pick one as a favorite.”

The Mega Minds’ look forward to learning more fascinating words.

Precept WritingBy Jenna Lightner

In room 205, the Mega Minds are currently reading the book Wonder by Raquel J. Palacio. In this book, the main character, August Pullman, has an English teacher named Mr. Brown. Every day, Mr. Brown writes a new precept on the chalkboard and tells the students to write in their journals what the precept means. Just like in the book, our class is picking their favorite precepts and writing about why they chose them and what they mean to them. The writing of the precepts will be transferred to our class book from the site, Studentreasures. (The form already came home, if you would like to buy our book.) The Mega Minds also drew beautiful illustrations to go along with their precepts, which will be scanned into the book. Our book will be entitled “Words to Live By.” I can’t wait to read our class book!
