The people of Aksum and the Bantu migrations mad up two early cultures of Africa. Both groups had iron tools and weapons. They both spread over wide areas and mixed with other peoples. Bantu groups lived south of the vast Sahara Desert. Because of this, they probably had little contact with people living outside of Africa. The only trading they did was with each other for the things they needed. The people of Aksum however, traded widely with faraway civilizations. They traded ivory and gold for olive oil and cloth.
