The Problem In current healthcare models, the

main emphasis is on the patient,

but most patients use the help o

    others beore their own are

    oten ignored.

    on obtaining primary and secondary

    knowledge about caregiving across the

    lie span.

    Ater conducting interviews and

    literary research, the team translated

our ndings into key insights and

    opportunity areas that eventually

translated into solutions to increase the

we created composites o their insights

Ideating Solutions We took advantage o every opportunity

to use new tools and visualize concepts.

From 10 hour drives to late nights on

campus or in the hotel. The more we

    collaborated, the more plentiul our

    portolio o ideas became.

Through our multiple disciplines anddiversity we ound opportunities to

    innovate through confict resolution or

build on others ideas. By the end o our

ideation phase, we had truly moved

    rom sel-ecacy to sel-empowerment

    along the way.

IIcareconcept From the Doblin approach and in-depth

research, we knew a suite o ideas was

    needed to support caregiver wellness

through Mayo Clinics key values o

    innovation in research, education, and

    clinical practice. We studied Mayo

    Clinics brand and developed an

    identity that worked collaboratively.

IIcare tool kit The Doblin tools revealed that a key

    to preventing the health challenges

    associated with caregiving was to

communicate as early as possible and

establish an identity o being a caregiver

over ones lie span. We created a

    toolkit that immediately addresses this

at the Mayo Clinic and Health Centers, and prompts important discussions.

    More than 65 million Americans

provide care to a loved one.

If you're among them, you know that taking

care of someone who needs your assistance can

be very rewarding. But it can also exact a high

toll, and caregiver stress is common. Caregiver

stress is the emotional and physical strain of

caregiving. Individuals who experience the most

caregiver stress are the most vulnerable to a

    decline in their own health.

you are a caregiverMayo Clinic cares about you.

We nd our calling as caregivers through

    divergent relationships and experiences.

Whether our loved one is family or friend,

the time we spend caring for another also

    varies in time Patient needs vary;

    When you hear the word

"caregiver" you probablypicture someone caring for a

    parent with Alzheimer's

    disease. A caregiver is

    anyone who provides help

    to another person in need,

    whether that's an ill spouse

    or partner, a disabled child,

    or an aging relative.

Mayo Clinic, IIcare match is designed

keeping in mind the needs o both,

the patient and the care-giver. This

interactive tool will help us understand

the specic areas o you and your loved

ones lives that require our assistance. It

also recommends solutions and serviceproviders that will help you address

    those specic needs.

IIcare center The IIcare centerexpands on the

practice shield o the Mayo Clinic.

Existing adult day care centers only do

hal o the job they should. Based on our

    experience as practitioners, educators,

    and researchers, we understand that

the health and wellness o the patient

caregiver is critically important in apatients recovery. The II Care center

lls this gap providing both respite and

    support or the caregiver.

Take some time or yoursel, and get the

boost you need to balance your lie and

    your caregiving responsibilities.

    Building a Business

CaseThrough the creative process methodologies o

design thinking, we were nding product and

service opportunities that responded to our

users needs and research insights. To construct

a sound business argument, we utilized tools

rom marketing and management that could

help structure an approach that delivered

new benets to the user, while providing newopportunities or income to support Mayo

    operations.

For a non-prot organization that operates

annually at a losssupporting the patients

and caregivers remained a priority over prots.

Mayo depends heavily on the support o

private donors and oundations, and we kept

this in mind by establishing new interactionopportunities with patients and their amilys.
