A new way to get online

Page 3: 00145

ABSTRACT Google has designed a Linux based operating system to work

with web application called Google chrome OS. On 7th July, 2007 Google announced about the operating

system and an open project called Chromium source was started in November 2009.

It is an operating system where you can find applications and user data residing in the cloud.

Chrome books is a common name given to the laptops running Chrome OS. It is a three-tier architecture: window manager, browser and firmware and user land service and system-level software.

The purpose of the firmware is to make fast booting time and check each step in the boot process.

OBJECTIVE OF CHROME OS • Chromium OS is an open-source project that aims to build an

operating system that provides a fast, simple, and more secure computing experience for people who spend most of their time on the web.

• All data and applications will reside in the internet cloud rather than the netbook, Google said, giving netbook users protection from malware.

• One specific significant difference relates to browsing on more than one page or site at a time.

• When you talk about Chrome OS, words like app and program are all relative. Nearly every app opens in a browser window and is based in the cloud.

INTRODUCTION ANNOUNCEMENT :-Google announced the Chrome operating system in July 2009.

OPEN SOURCE :-Google Chrome OS is an open source, lightweight operating system that will initially be targeted at netbooks.

Target Audience for Chrome OSChrome OS is targeted initially towards netbooks, super small notebooks designed primarily for Web browsing.

Page 6: 00145

Chrome OS Availability:-Chrome OS is available for developers or anyone with an interest.

HANDLING MEMORY :-Chrome much better at handling memory than other browsers.a single process depending on how much each web page opens

at any one time needs.

SPEED:-Speed, simplicity and security are the key aspects of Google Chrome OS.

WORKING OF THE OS• Traditional operating system, such as Windows, require a lot of hard

drive space and demand some work on your part. You have to install the programs you want individually, manage OS and security updates and manage device drivers too.

• Chrome OS is built on an open-source version.

•  Netbooks are small laptop computers that are designed to let users access the Web, and not much more they're inexpensive and feature-limited hardware, and they aren't built for high-powered applications like Photoshop.

• Unlike Windows, Chrome won't be available as a download. It'll be pre-installed by netbook manufacturers who adhere to Google's hardware specifications.

Page 8: 00145

• Google wants you to store your data online. And because the OS uses Web-based applications, you don't need local storage for software.

• all of your data and applications are stored online, in the "cloud," so that you can access them from any computer, anywhere.

• The company says this model will help it develop a better overall OS experience and focus on building an OS with improved speed, security and simplicity.

• Like most Google products, Chrome OS is free. That fact, along with the power of Google's marketing and distribution, should grab your attention.

ABOUT GOOGLE

• Google real mean of “googol” which means 1 after 100 zeroes that means that have infinite page.

• Google was founded in 1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were PhD students at Stanford University, California.

Page 12: 00145

• The broad appeal of Google search became apparent when the site was awarded both a Webby Award and a People's Voice Award for technical achievement in May 2000.

• The following month, Google officially became the world's largest search engine with its introduction of a billion-page index .

• Smallest computers• Lightweight and fast mini-computers• Thin client architecture• Designed for net based applications• Reduced specification and processing power• high battery life.• Cheaper

GOOGLE CHROME BROWSER

• Google Chrome is a free, open-source web browser developed by Google.

• It was released in 2008, and has grown to be one of the most popular browsers today.

• When Google decided to make a browser, they wanted to completely rethink the browser, as browsing now is very different from browsing simple text pages. Now we email, shop, pay bills, and run large application in our browsers.

• Any personal information that is provided to Google or stored in your Google Account will be used and protected in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy.

USER CLOUD• Clouds use a network layer to connect users end point device like computers or smart phones,to resources that are

centralised in a data center.

• User can access the data center via a company nework or the internet or both.clouds can also be accessed from any location, allowing mobile workers to access their business

system on demand.

User data stored on the device, which is minimal, is encrypted. User data is limited to items such as user preferences.

Advantage of Google Chrome OS

OPEN SOURCE The first & the foremost thing is Chrome OS is an

OSS, Open Source Software. The source code will be given & you can download

it & can start using it & also you can optimize it in the way you want. So no cost.

Simple to use and easy to maintain Chrome OS is simply a web browser running inside

Chromebook. It is a lightweight operating system that requires minimal hardware specifications. This means that the system boots fast and the overall computer runs smooth.

Page 20: 00145

• Google and Android integration• Another advantage of Chrome OS is that it fully integrated with

Google and Android. A Google Account provides a single sign-in to all the features and functionality of the OS and Chromebook.

•  Fast and smooth software and hardware

•  Another advantage of Chrome OS is that it is a light operating system that requires less hardware resources unlike OS X and Windows. It does not need high-powered processors and memory and large storage space.

Page 21: 00145

• Built and designed for daily productivity

• Google bundles Chrome OS and Chromebook with different apps and services developed for productivity. Examples of

these include office productivity apps such as Docs, Sheets, and Slides—the counterpart to Microsoft Office—and Google-branded communication apps such as Gmail and Hangouts.

• Easy to carry around due to portability• Another advantage of Chromebooks is that they are ultra thin

and lightweight because of their minimal hardware specifications. They are tantamount to bringing a netbook or

an Android-power tablet. The only difference between Chromebook and other mobile devices is that it is geared for

both content creation and consumption.

Limitations of Google Chrome OS

Not suitable for power users Chrome OS and Chromebook are severely limited by the fact

that they are not capable of running resource-intensive apps or software. This turns off creative professionals such as music producers and graphic artists.

• Works best with fast Internet connection• Chrome OS and Chromebook are also designed to run offline.

A lot of apps can work offline. But the main selling point of this OS is that it is a cloud facilitator. This means that an Internet connection is needed to use the full potential of the OS and Chromebook.

Page 24: 00145

Redundant if a user owns other devices

A notable disadvantage of Chrome OS is that it is not an exceptionally operating system as far as unique selling points are concerned. A Chromebook is also not an exceptionally and game-changing device.

Page 25: 00145

The Future scope of Chrome OS

• In spite of its Google branding, Chrome is anything but a sure bet in the OS arena. At its core, Chrome is a variation of Linux, which has been around in various incarnations since the early 1990s. In other words, why would Chrome succeed where other versions of Linux have failed?

• There are plenty of challenges for Google to address. One issue that may drive away users is that without an Internet connection, a Chrome computer's capabilities are severely restricted. Sans Web, there's simply not much this kind of machine can do, because it can't access any data or even programs other than the included media player.

Page 26: 00145

• Many users may also be turned off by the idea of storing all data online. Most people are used to saving at least a few critical documents locally, and being separated from that data may be too much to bear.

• Privacy issues are another concern. It's one thing to store a list of passwords or important financial information on your own hard drive.

• It's quite another to story that information on a Google-owned server, no matter how many assurances the company touts in its privacy policies.
