Gardening is personal. ach of us experiences a garden in our own way. ach of us may also express in our own words and images our appreciation of a garden’s eauty, plantings, design, artfulness, and its resonance with our personal interpretation of life, as well as our interactions with nature and with each other.
At the same time, gardening is uni ersal. rom the Garden of den onward, gardens ha e
een integral to human history and culture. Plants pro ide us with food, fuel, shelter, and medicine. In fact, all life on arth is made possi le
y the oxygen created y plant life, including garden plants. In our increasingly ur an, mo ile, and irtual world, gardens o er an e er more important connection to tangi le nature and life.
he following pages contain personal o ser ations from a few of the many people with whom we ha e had the honor to interact o er the years— y opening the gates to a eautiful garden and sharing it with the pu lic, y helping to restore or preser e an outstanding garden, or y colla orating and strategi ing ways to sa e a historic or community treasure for future generations to enjoy.
ommon themes emerge a out the Garden onser ancy’s impact• We Bring Together People and Gardens

These personal statements tell a compelling story. They explain not only what we at the Garden onser ancy do and how we approach our mission, ut, much more importantly, WHY we do what we do.
