New Situation

New situation results in a monumental shell and a separate house connected through a dinning saloon. This is the central spot of the household. It also functions as a buffer zone between public and private areas in the household. The saloon gives a grand view over the garden, combining inside and outside. The idea is to fuse all room with nature making it part of all inside domains.

These domains are

separated by traffic areas and storage facilities and

have their own orientation towards the outside.

The upper floor is a complete other world. The rooms are completely enclosed and secure privacy.

On this floor it is the in-between space that is oriented towards the outside. This space is being used for access and

for an extra work desk. All together it generates the effect of a piece of furniture. The house is now standing on legs likes a piece of

furniture in its ‘Room’, the traditional name for the landscape topology in that area.

Construction

Plan 3D; exterieur, interieur, constructie en detailering

The construction of this house consists out of load bearing walls at the hard of the layout. These wall function as the structure that lifts the concrete floor of the first floor. The facades are mounted to this concrete slab. The roof and facades are made out of prefab wood construction slabs that have a super high isolation value. These slabs are than cover with

a thick layer of cane, typical local for that area. This cane is growing in the house and will supply cane for the roof in the future. The aluminium window frames keep the big glass plate in place and sustain a slim and easy to maintain structure for the windows. This framework also guides the water from the cane facades along it windows to the ground in an orderly way.

The project was fully developed in 3D. Through BIM we are able to exchange information with product developers and contractors. In a premature state of the design the model is able

to give a huge amount of information on the technical details or feasible solutions. The example on this page show the technical principles for the roof ridge.
