Daikin has more than 70 years experience in manufacturingadvanced, high quality equipment air conditioning forresidential, commercial and industrial applications.
The Japanese mother company Daikin Industries Ltd. isactively engaged in research into a wide spectrum of scienceand disciplines, from mechanics and electronics to chemicalsand fluorocarbons.
Since its formation in 1972, Daikin Europe has evolved froma component assembly plant into the most advanced airconditioning manufacturing complex in Europe. All Europeanstandards regarding production, health and safety are metin full.
• The environment
Daikin’s unique position as a manufacturer of both fluorocarbon refrigerants and air conditioning and refrigerationequipment has not surprisingly led to its close involvementin environmental issues.
Once ozone depletion in the stratosphere becameattributable to chloro fluoro carbon refrigerant chemicals(CFCs), Daikin took the decision to cease both theirproduction and that of the products that use them. At thesame time, Daikin joined leading world manufacturers inthe research into safe and environmentally friendlyalternatives. The Environment Protection Agency of theU.S.A afforded recognition of these efforts in June 2002by presenting Daikin with its prestigious trophy forthe protection of the environment.
Daikin intends to become a leader in the provision ofenvironmentally friendly products. This challenge demandsthe eco-design and development of a comprehensiveproduct range and an energy management system thataddresses energy conservation, reduction in waste and thecontrol of hazardous substances etc.

• 1987The original VRV air conditioning system developed byDaikin in 1982 is introduced into Europe in Standardformat. The system is able to supply conditioned air from upto 4 indoor units connected to a single outdoor unit.
• 1990The end of the year sees the launch of the newInverter system with the facility to operate up to 8 indoorunits from a single outdoor unit. Inverter capacity controlgreatly increases system flexibility and efficiency.
• 1991A further step forward is taken in 1991 with the intro-duction of the Heat Recovery system, offeringsimultaneous cooling and heating from different indoorunits on the same refrigeration circuit.
• 1992Continuous improvements to energy efficiency and systemflexibility lead to the development of the advancedin which fresh air supply (HRV) and computerisedmanagement (DACMS) are integrated with the VRV.
• 1994Consistent high quality and efficiency lead to the wide-spread acceptance of the VRV concept and Daikin becomesthe first Japanese air conditioning manufacturer to beawarded the ISO9001 certification. But the search for improved flexibility and energy efficiencydoes not stop there. Unrivalled field experience and closeregard for market requirements enables Daikin to apply yetanother quantum leap to VRV technology - theInverter-H series, operating up to 16 indoor units from just1 outdoor unit !
• 1998In anticipation of phase out dates for all CFC basedequipment, Daikin Europe steps up the production of VRVair conditioning units using ozone friendly refrigerant.
Daikin Europe celebrates its 25th anniversary with the awardof an ISO14001 environmental certificate and theintroduction of Inverter K series with R-407C, incooling only or heat pump format. As many as 16 indoorunits can be connected to 1 single outdoor unit.
TThe H i s to ryo f S y s t e m s
• 1999The series using R-22 has been designed aroundleading edge technologies to accommodate high capacityair conditioning networks of up to 30 indoor units from asingle refrigerant circuit.
Another step forward has been taken with the launch of theheat recovery series using R-407C and connecting up
to 16 indoor units to 1 single outdoor unit.
• 2000Because of the growing needs of large-capacity systemsDaikin Europe introduces the series using ozonefriendly refrigerant, in heat pump format. Up to 32 indoorunits can be connected to a single refrigerant circuit.

In recent years, design styles for intelligent buildings such ashotels, banks and offices etc. have increasingly featured largeareas of glazing with attendant high solar heat gains thatcan only be dissipated by means of air conditioning. Not surprisingly therefore, air conditioning has grownin importance and is now widely accepted as an integralcomponent of most modern architectural concepts.
The increasing use of electronic office equipment raisesthermal loadings still further to a point whereby, even inwinter, internal temperatures can reach uncomfortable levels. The demand for cooling or heating can also vary considerablythrough-out the day depending on the number andoccupation of personnel on the premises. But end users havecome to expect far more than just cooling and heating fromtheir air conditioning.
The ideal modern system mustbe energy efficient, easy toinstall, flexible, reliable anduser friendly. Fresh air must besupplied without increasingenergy consumption and therole of central managementfacilities should also beconsidered in this respect formedium to large sizedbuildings. The Daikin Hi-VRVsystem meets all thesedemands.
The innovative Hi-VRV selection programme, Daikin’s flagship software package, enables you to exploit the system’spossibilities to the max and guarantees the end user a perfectservice. From now on you can fully plan your Daikin air-conditioningproject on a step-by-step basis without difficulty.

Inverter technology
The linear VRV system makes use of a variable Proportional Integral(PI) control system which uses refrigerant pressure sensors to giveadded control over inverter and ON/OFF control compressors inorder to abbreviate control steps into smaller units to provideprecise control in both small and larger areas. This in turn enables individual control of up to 40 indoor units ofdifferent capacity and type at a ratio of 50~130 % in comparisonwith outdoor units capacity. 5 HP outdoor units use inverter controlcompressors only.

Smart control brings comfort
An electronic expansion valve, using PID control, continuouslyadjusts the refrigerant volume in respond to load variations of theindoor units. The VRV system thus maintains comfortable roomtemperatures at a virtually constant level, without thetemperature variations typical of conventional ON/OFF controlsystems.

Slow start-up
Less frequent start/stop cycle
• the technique adopted by Daikin, of regulating the capacity usingmultiple compressors clearly results in minimum switching lossesand power surges because of the overlap in capacity and frequency
• since Daikin utilises small 5HP inverter compressors, the influenceof harmonics is less than that generated by a single largecompressor
• the use of multiple compressors by Daikin also ensures a 50 %standby facility
• smaller compressors are cheaper and faster to replace

Low running costs
• VRV systems have low running costs because it permits each zoneto be controlled individually. That is, only those rooms thatrequire air conditioning will be heated or cooled, while thesystem can be shut down completely in rooms where no airconditioning is required.
• VRV units have the highest COP/EER in the market in the mostcommon operating area

Most advanced reluctance brushless
DC compressor technology
The scroll compressor is driven by the newly developed motor, enabling better performance, higher enery efficiency resulting inhigher energy cost savings.
2
HRV - Heat Reclaim Ventilation System
• Heat and humidity are exchanged between supply and exhaust air,which- brings outdoor air close to indoor air conditions- recovers energy loss- realises considerable reduction of air conditioning capacity
• The heat exchanger modulates the humidity andtemperature of incoming fresh air to match indoor conditions.
• The balance achieved between indoor and outdoor ambients, enables the cooling/heating load placed on the air conditioningsystem to be reduced. (heat and humidity are exchanged)
• Most energy saving solution as smaller indoor units can be selected :- size down of indoor units down to 40 %- payback total VAM system : ±2.5 years*
*conditions : outside cooling conditions : 30°C / outside heating conditions : - 8°Cinside cooling conditions : 24°C / inside heating conditions : 22°Cventilation per room : 150m3/h
• Ideal modular concept to cope with the fresh air requirements
3
Auto restart capability
Even after exceptionally long power failures, the built-in auto restartcapability ensures automatic system start up. Since the preset memoryis not erased by interruptions in power supply, no programmeresetting is necessary.

Low operation sound level
• Continuous research by Daikin into reducing operation soundlevels has resulted in the development of a purpose designedinverter scroll compressor and fan.
• The new grille and fan offer low noise, high volume airflow andare housed in a compact casing together with the associatedcompressor components. The use of this new technology assemblyenables a 16hp unit to be housed in a single casing.
Aero spiral fan:Bending the fan blade edge reduces turbulence, resulting in lesspressure loss
Aero fitting grille:New shape promotes spiral discharge airflow, resulting in reducedpressure loss
• Night quiet function (max. -8dBA)During night time, sound level of the outdoor unit can be reducedfor a certain period : starting time and ending time can be input
Water-cooled air conditioning can be acceptable in certain criticalareas in which the operating sound of air-cooled air conditioningcould be a little intrusive. This results from:- the low operating sound level of the condensing unit- indoor installation capabilities of the unit- custom engineered sound level of the dry cooler
• Daikin indoor units have very low sound operation levels, down to 25 dBA.

Double back-up function
In the event of a compressor malfunction, the remotely controlledor field set back-up function in the outdoor unit in question(and also between different outdoor units) will allow emergencyoperation of another compressor in order to maintain 8 hourmaximum interim capacity
Duty cycling
The cyclical start-up sequence of multiple outdoor unit systemsequalises compressor duty and extends operating life.
Special oil equalising technology
The incorporation of this technology ensures that the optimumquantity of oil is contained in each outdoor unit module in orderto maintain compressor reliability. Automatic checks are carriedout every 6 minutes on the number of compressors in operationand also to ascertain that there is enough oil to keep them running.
Each compressor in a VRVII outdoor unit is equipped with aninternal oil equalising circuit, comprising an oil separator and oilreturn circuit. This ensures that the maximum quantity of oil isreturned to the compressor case before entering the REFNET pipingnetwork.

Complete flexibility
• The VRVII / VRV-WII systems enables different floors or even roomsto be rented to different customers, because each room hasindependent control of its air conditioning.
• Thanks to inverter technology, as many as 40 indoor units(32 indoor units for VRV-WII) with different types and capacitiescan be installed in one system. This system automatically andeffectively controls each unit to provide individual rooms ofdifferent sizes with a comfortable working or living environment.
Year round cooling and/or heating
• Designed to provide simultaneous year round cooling and/orheating, VRVII heat recovery systems are modular in conceptand are therefore, ideal for use in rooms or zones that generatevarying thermal loads according to building orientation or localhot or cold spots.
• It is possible for the same meeting room to give rise to differingthermal loads depending on the time of day, number of occupantspresent, location and usage pattern of lighting and electronicoffice equipment.
• Until the advent of the VRV, a complex 4-pipe fan coil was neededto meet this requirement. The VRV however, is easier to designand install and in its heat recovery format, can conserve energy intwo or more rooms at the same time.
• The colder it is outside, the warmer it needs to be indoors, whichmeans that the capacity of the air-cooled outdoor unit drops.Water-cooled air conditioners are not subject to this problem. The boiler ensures that sufficient enough additional heat is alwaysavailable indoors.

Longest refrigerant piping run
• The ability to sustain refrigerant piping in lengths up to 150m(175m equivalent), allows systems to be designed with leveldifferences of 50m between indoor and outdoor units and 15mbetween individual indoor units. Thus, even with installations in15 storey buildings, all outdoor units can be located at rooftoplevel.

• The water-cooled VRV-WII, uses water as its heat source and sincethere are no limitations on water piping length, is eminentlysuitable for application to tall multi storey or large buildings.Considerable flexibility is available within the refrigerant circuitsince up to 120m actual piping length and 50m* (if the VRV-WII isabove the indoor units) in height can exist between the VRV-WIIand indoor units. Water piping does not intrude on the occupiedspaces, so there are no leakage problems.

Short installation time
• Thanks to small bore refrigerant pipes and REFNET piping options, the VRVII / VRV-WII piping system can be installed very easily andquickly.
• Installation of the VRVII / VRV-WII system can also be implementedfloor by floor, so that sections of the building can be put into usevery quickly, or enabling the air conditioning system to becommissioned and operated in stages, rather than on finalcompletion of the project.
Dramatic reduction in installation space
• VRVII features a dramatic reduction in installation space - forexample, the 16hp outdoor unit is housed in a single casingoutdoor unit, providing a 50 % reduction in required installationspace.
• The adoption of a new water heat exchanger and optimization ofthe refrigerant control circuit has resulted in the industry’s mostcompact and lightweight design. The unit weight of 150kg andheight of 1,000mm makes installation easy. Stacked configurationis also possible, contributing further to space savings.
Modular & lightweight
• Modular design enables units to be joined together in rows withan outstanding degree of uniformity.
• The design of the outdoor units is sufficiently compact to allowthem to be taken up to the top of a building in a commercialelevator, overcoming site transportation problem, particularlywhen outdoor units need to be installed on each floor.

Unified REFNET piping
• The unified Daikin REFNET piping system is especially designedfor simple installation
• The use of REFNET piping in combination with electronic expansionvalves, results in a dramatic reduction in imbalance in refrigerantflowing between indoor units, despite the small diameter of thepiping.
• REFNET joints and headers (both accessories) can cut down oninstallation work and increase system reliability.
• Compared to regular T-joints, where refrigerant distribution is farfrom optimal, the Daikin REFNET joints have specifically beendesigned to optimise refrigerant flow.

Sequential start
Up to 3 outdoor units can be connected to 1 power supply and canbe turned on sequentially. This allows the number of breakers andtheir capacities to remain small and simplifies wiring (for models of10Hp or less).
Self diagnosis
Detects malfunctions in major locations of the system and displaysthe type of malfunction and location, which in turn allows servicingand maintenance to be performed more efficiently.
Crosswiring check
The cross wiring check facility available on the VRVII is the first of itstype in the industy to warn operatives of connection errors ininterunit wiring and piping. This function identifies and alertssystem errors by means of on/off LEDs on the outdoor unit’s PCboards.
Simplified wiring
• A simple 2-wire non-shielded multiplex transmission system linkseach outdoor unit to multiple indoor units using one 2-core wire, thus simplifying the wiring operation.
• Furthermore, outdoor units have power connection outlets onside and front, resulting in easier installation and maintenanceand saving space when rows of units are connected together.

“Super Wiring” system
• A Super Wiring system is used to enable the shared use of wiringbetween indoor units, outdoor units and the centralised remotecontrol.
• This system makes it easy for the user to retrofit the existingsystem with a centralised remote control, simply by connecting itto the outdoor units.
• Thanks to a non polarity wiring system, incorrect connectionsbecome impossible and installation time is reduced.

Reluctance brushless
DC compressor
• The reluctance brushless DC motor provides significant increasesin efficiency compared to conventional AC inverter motors, simultaneously using 2 different forms of torque (normal andreluctance torque) to produce extra power from small electriccurrents.
• The motor comprises powerful neodymiummagnets, that create the reluctance torque. These magnets are approximately 12 timesstronger than ferrite magnets and make a majorcontribution to its energy saving characteristics.
• High thrust mechanism (VRVII cooling only/heat pump)By introducing high pressure oil, the reactive force from the fixedscroll is added to the internal force, thereby reducing thrust losses. This results in improved efficiency and suppressed sound level

Reluctance brushless
DC compressor
• The reluctance brushless DC motor provides significant increasesin efficiency compared to conventional AC inverter motors, simultaneously using 2 different forms of torque (normal andreluctance torque) to produce extra power from small electriccurrents.
• High thrust mechanismBy introducing high pressure oil, the reactive force from the fixedscroll is added to the internal force, thereby reducing thrust losses. This results in improved efficiency and suppressed sound level
• The motor comprises powerful neodymium magnets, that createthe reluctance torque. These magnets are approximately 12 timesstronger than ferrite magnets and make a major contribution toits energy saving characteristics.
Sine Wave DCinverter
Optimizing the sine wavecurve, results in smoothermotor rotation andimproved motor efficiency.
