Student Bulletin 01 October 2020
College Security
If you see someone on site who you know is not a student here you
are expected to report them to a member of staff. Alert the first
person you can. This includes anyone on the drive and the grass
outside the front of the college (but inside the fence/ gates). You
may think they are harmless but they are in fact ‘intruders’ and have
no business being on site.
If you are seen with an intruder and you have taken no steps to
report them, this will count on your behavioural record because you
are not doing what you should to uphold the College’s security. We
take safety and security in the College very seriously and it is up to
all of us to keep the site secure.

Does The Following Sound Familiar To You?
• I am currently ‘in care’ and have been placed in care via the local authority.
• I am currently in foster care and have been placed by the local authority.
• I have previously, been placed ‘in care’ or ‘foster care’ by the local authority.
• I am under special guardianship and so a member of my family (e.g. sibling, aunt or

October - Black History Month
The first BHM was celebrated in 1987 only in London, and was largely the result of local
community activism challenging racism in British society and the Eurocentric version of
history that dominated the state school system. Over the years BHM has spread across the
UK and it is used to celebrate Black History, achievements and contributions to society.
There will be displays, tutorials, newsletter and weekly posts in the bulletin that will have a
BHM focus. Happy Black History Month!
October 2nd - International Day of Non-Violence

October 3rd - Sukkot
Sukkot is a weeklong Jewish holiday that comes five days after Yom Kippur (Day of
Atonement). Sukkot celebrates the gathering of the harvest and commemorates the
miraculous protection G‑d provided for the children of Israel when they left Egypt. To learn more watch this short ‘LEGO Sukkot Movie’ video here.
October 4th - Saint Francis’ Day
The feast commemorates the life of St Francis, who was born in the 12th century and is the
Catholic Church's patron saint of animals and the environment. It is a popular day for pets
to be “blessed”. Watch this video of pets being blessed to learn more here.

Poem Of The Day
This is one of my favourite poems. Do you have a favourite?
Lying in a Hammock at William Duffy’s Farm in Pine Island, Minnesota
By James Wright
Over my head, I see the bronze butterfly,
Asleep on the black trunk,
Blowing like a leaf in green shadow.
Down the ravine behind the empty house,
The cowbells follow one another
Into the distances of the afternoon.
To my right,
In a field of sunlight between two pines,
The droppings of last year’s horses
Blaze up into golden stones. I lean back, as the evening darkens and comes on.
A chicken hawk floats over, looking for home.
I have wasted my life.

Canteen Menu - 28 Sept to 2 Oct
Please download and use the Caterlink app for great deals and discounts. It also really helps
if you could top up your college cards rather than using a debit card as the payment is much
faster, and helps the canteen at busier times.
Dishes on the menu are subject to change depending on deliveries.
