Fully competent multimedia BTS
In order to provide high quality solutions for the support of multimedia services, ahigh capacity macrocellular network is needed. The core of a macrocellular site, i.e.,the BTS, must provide enough capacity for both voice and data traffic and, moreimportantly, have the ability to carry higher data loads per each time slot.
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is a multistandard BTS that ensures operators can offerboth data and multimedia services, as well as traditional voice services. Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS provides a smooth evolution from GSM to WCDMAwith the capability to simultaneously enclose both GSM/EDGE TRXs and WCDMA
carriers in a single Indoor or Outdoor cabinet. Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS alsoprovides an alternative to WCDMA with full data support. Nokia UltraSite GSMBTS is HSCSD and GPRS compatible from the beginning, and EDGE capable, withsimple plug-in unit upgrades.
Adaptive platform for every operator
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is optimised for both high capacity and wide coveragemacrocellular applications. The number of sites is reduced, seamless voice and datacoverage area is provided, and high call quality is maintained due to an improved linkbudget. This helps to meet the coverage and capacity needs for many differentapplications. Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS provides, as standard, one of the highestoutput powers which will give cell ranges that meet the requirements in most of thecoverage applications.
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is an extremely compact, high capacity voice and dataBTS containing up to 12 TRXs per BTS cabinet. Cabinets can be chained for largeconfigurations, such as 12+12+12 in 3 cabinets, or even much larger, to provideextremely high GSM traffic capacity per site.
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS can also be used in cases where the expansion of existingTalk-family sites is needed. It can be placed side by side and integrated into a Talk-family site as an upgrade cabinet.
Cost-effective multistandard BTS platform
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTSs smooth evolution path from GSM to EDGE andWCDMA protects the investment made in your network. Nokia UltraSite GSM BTScan be EDGE capable with simple plug-in unit upgrades.
During the rollout phase of WCDMA, there is no need to immediately installdedicated WCDMA BTS cabinets to existing GSM base station sites. In thebeginning, WCDMA can be introduced to the network by installing WCDMAequipment into existing Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS Indoor or Outdoor cabinets.When the need for WCDMA capacity grows, Nokia UltraSite WCDMA BTScabinets can be installed. Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS provides high capacity with a reduced number of BTScabinets and sites. The extremely wide coverage area built by Nokia UltraSite GSM
BTS provides a wide service area per site and a large user base coverage.Furthermore, with the versatile Nokia UltraSite transmission options, the mostsuitable transmission media can be used. The integrated battery backup for NokiaUltraSite GSM BTS, as well as the Nokia UltraSite Support provide uninterruptedtraffic even in case of a mains power failure. These features make Nokia UltraSiteGSM BTS a cost efficient solution for a number of different application areas.
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is designed for easy installation. Its full frontalaccessibility reduces the space needed on site and eases installation. All maintenancecan be performed from the front, as well. Integrated hardware reduces the quantityof equipment used at the site. Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS makes BTS commissioningand integration fast and easy. This is achieved with the Nokia Autoconfigurationfeature of Nokia SiteWizard. 3.1 Fully competent multimedia BTS
With Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS, the operator can be assured of reliable andcompetent multimedia services.
As stated earlier, high capacity solutions for the support of multimedia servicesrequire a high quality macrocellular network. Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is designedto be the backbone of such a network.
The first step to multimedia applications is the deployment of HSCSD (High SpeedCircuit Switched Data), which is supported by Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS right fromthe beginning. HSCSD
allows operators to offer data rates up to 57.6 kbit/s, over 4 channels.
enables the operator to provide real-time services to the end users.
With the help of future compression technology, data speed can be increased evenmore. High data transmission speed makes it possible to transmit live images, andeven more, in a GSM network.
The next step to improving services, by offering attractive wireless Internet accessand other new tempting applications, is to utilise GPRS (General Packet RadioService). Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is GPRS (coding schemes 1 and 2) capable fromthe start. GPRS
makes it possible and cost-effective to remain constantly connected.

High speed data performance can be achieved with the utilisation of EDGE. NokiaUltraSite GSM BTS is EDGE compatible, and support will be provided when EDGETRX RF units and TRX Baseband units are added. UltraSite GSM and EDGE TRXscan co-exist in the same cabinet; however, an all-EDGE BTS configuration is alsoapplicable.
Smooth migration from GSM to WCDMA is supported with Nokia UltraSite. It willbe possible to simultaneously enclose GSM/EDGE TRXs and WCDMA carrierswithin a single Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS Indoor or Outdoor cabinet.
3.2 Adaptive platform for every operator
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is optimised for macrocellular applications. It provides awide voice and data coverage area, due to an improved link budget. Coverage can befurther expanded with an optional Masthead Amplifier and other TX powerenhancement features. The ICE (Intelligent Coverage Enhancement) feature can beused with Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS. Flexible combiner options are available tocreate high output power with a minimum number of antennas. This helps to meetthe coverage and capacity needs for many different applications.
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS in Dual Band configuration supports effective networkcapacity building, as well as high call quality, all in a single cabinet. Commonantennas and antenna feeder cables for both the GSM 900 and GSM 1800 TRXs arealso possible.
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTSs high TRX density, with 12 TRXs per cabinet, reducesthe total network investment. Its extremely high capacity per sector and site, forvoice and data traffic, is especially useful for wideband networks, in whichextremely large configurations are made possible by chaining the BTS cabinetstogether. Cabinet clock synchronisation allows synchronised handovers and sharedfrequencies in sectorised sites between cabinets. Output power can be expandedfurther by using TX power enhancement features; Masthead Amplifiers and diversityreception (2- or 4-way) improve receive sensitivity.16 (78) Nokia Networks Oy DN99109462Issue2-0en
Features
For capacity enhancement as well as network quality assurance, Nokia UltraSiteGSM BTSs ability to fully use Nokia Soft Capacity Features, such as Intelligent
Frequency Hopping, is advantageous. Frequency hopping ensures network qualityand increases frequency reuse.
With established networks, sites can be expanded by utilising Nokia UltraSite GSMBTS as an upgrade cabinet at existing Talk-family sites, where Nokia UltraSite GSMBTS and Talk-family cabinets can be placed side by side. Planning for NokiaUltraSite and Talk-family co-sites is easy, since the Nokia UltraSite GSM BTScabinet will fit into the corresponding Talk-family footprint, and the existingantennas and feeder cables can be used. The modular design of Nokia UltraSite GSMBTS supports efficient capacity growth.

New operators can expect quick and cost efficient rollout. Nokia UltraSite GSMBTSs superior RF performance and high TRX density per cabinet means a reduced
number of sites and less equipment per site. Network setup times are significantlyreduced by Nokia UltraSites integrated transmission and configurations tools, i.e.,Nokia SiteWizard.
Other capacity and quality features, such as Adaptive Multi Rate (AMR) speechcoding, 4-way receiver diversity, Intelligent Shutdown, Remote MMI, ExtendedCell, and RSSI Antenna Monitoring, will be supported in a later software release.
3.3 Cost effective multipurpose GSM platform
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS has many advanced features that also make it costeffective.
With Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS, the same equipment can be used to build coverage,capacity, or both. The cabinets can be chained to provide a dense high capacity site,i.e., 36 GSM/EDGE TRXs using only 3 BTS cabinets, or a maximum of 108 TRXsusing up to 9 cabinets. Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS can be configured to providecoverage to the widest rural area. This, together with the ability to simultaneouslyenclose up to 3 WCDMA carriers per BTS cabinet, enables the range of possibleconfigurations to be as varied as the operators needs. High TRX capacity and widecoverage per site also contribute greatly to the reduced number of sites, and therebyhave a great effect on the operators balance sheet.
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS provides investment protection as well. It is backwardcompatible and can be installed into existing Talk-family sites for capacityenhancement or as a data capability upgrade, using EDGE. To secure future siteevolution, Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is forward compatible for projected HSCSD,GPRS, EDGE, and WCDMA needs.
Just as Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is backward compatible to Talk-family sites,WCDMA carriers can also be fitted into existing Nokia UltraSite GSM BTScabinets. This upgrade is extremely cost effective; since the cabinet is already at thesite, there is no need for expensive site acquisition or site preparation. Of course,rollout is expedient.
The actual installation and commissioning of Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is fast andeasy because of the simplified internal cabling and the uniformity of unit placementin all cabinets. Nokia SiteWizard provides easy, step-by-step commissioninginstructions and a quick integration into the network to ensure that Nokia UltraSiteGSM BTS is up and running very soon after the installation. Features
Installation
Due to its light weight, compact size, and full frontal accessibility, Nokia UltraSite
GSM BTS is easy to install just about anywhere.An empty Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS cabinet can easily be lifted, carried, and putinto place by two installers. In the case of indoor installation, no special plinth isrequired; Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS Indoor or Midi Indoor can simply be bolteddirectly to the base.
Also, since Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS cabinets can be installed side by side and incorners, the space requirement is reduced. Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS even supportshot insertion of plug-in units, meaning units can be replaced during operationwithout disrupting the BTS functions.
As mentioned earlier, Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS fits into the corresponding Talk-family BTS footprints. The operator does not need to alter any previous plans forexpansion based on site location; the installation locations for Nokia UltraSite GSMBTS can be the same as those previously chosen for Talk-family. Of course, NokiaUltraSite GSM BTS can be co-sited with Talk-family, as an upgrade cabinet. All ofthis compatibility means investment protection.
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is delivered to the site with all the necessary plug-in units.To add to the ease of installation, all plug-in units are delivered with the correctcables required for each specified configuration.

In addition to its other versatile and advanced properties, the NokiaAutoconfiguration and BTS active unit autodetection features make commissioningand integrating Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS fast and easy. The Nokia Autoconfiguration feature establishes a transmission link between theBSC and BTS, and issues the new BTS to the NMS, which automatically setstransmission time slots and settings for the BTS. The NMS/2000 generates a SiteConfiguration File (SCF) that considerably eases the commissioning of NokiaUltraSite GSM BTS.
The Nokia NMS automatically documents Nokia UltraSite GSM BTSsconfiguration, topology, and transmission connections into the NMS/2000 database.At the end of the commissioning process, Nokia SiteWizard produces the SiteAcceptance Report.
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS software includes an autodetection feature, whichidentifies all the active BTS hardware. This reduces the time spent on site forcommissioning, since the system data that is required to be entered manually isconsiderably less.20 (78) Nokia Networks Oy DN99109462Issue2-0en

Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is specifically designed, as part of a solution for highcapacity macrocellular networks, to meet the operators demand for increasedcoverage and capacity, for both voice and data. As the need for capacity grows,Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS can be expanded very flexibly and easily. As the need for3rd generation services grows, WCDMA can be introduced by integrating WCDMAcarriers into existing Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS cabinets or by installing dedicatedNokia UltraSite WCDMA BTS cabinets to the site. Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is partof the Nokia UltraSite Solution, which provides BTS sites that are completelyequipped with transmission and auxiliary equipment. Applications and configurations
4.2 ConfigurationsNokia UltraSite GSM BTS can be sectored flexibly and expanded easily. NokiaUltraSite GSM BTS readily supports multiple sectors per cabinet. For this reason, theintroduction of Dual Band configurations is very easy.
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS can be used with various flexible antenna configurations,including dual band and cross-polarised antennas. Various antenna combiningoptions are available for Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS, to minimise the number ofantennas and maximise the coverage range.
2-way diversity is available for use in Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS. Additionally, withthe next SW release, 4-way RX diversity is possible.

Management and software5 Management and softwareGenerally, Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is managed from the NMS/2000 via the BSC,as is the whole Nokia BSS. Due to the advanced monitoring functions of the NMS/2000, the management tasks carried out on site are kept at a minimum.
Nokia NMS incorporates a full range of functions from fault, performance, andconfiguration management to transmission, trouble, and security management. Formore information, please refer to Nokia NMS documentation.
The initial SW in Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is PU1.0, which will already providesupport for most of the Nokia UltraSite features. NMS/2000 SW T12 and BSC SWS9 provide needed support for Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS.
For EDGE UltraSite and MetroSite GSM BTSs, BTS SW CX3.0, NMS/2000 SWT13 and BSC SW S10 are used.
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS is delivered to the customer with factory SW settings, inorder to support rapid deployment.
On site, Nokia SiteWizard is used for BTS management.
5.1 Nokia SiteWizard
Nokia SiteWizard software is used for managing Nokia UltraSite GSM BTScommissioning, supervision, maintenance, and testing, as well as transmissionconfiguration. Nokia SiteWizard is a 32-bit application with graphical user interface,running in NT or Windows 95 or 98 environment.

Autodetection of active base station hardware
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS software includes an autodetection feature that
automatically identifies the active BTS hardware. This reduces the time spent oncommissioning, since required system data entries are minimised.
Support for Nokia Autoconfiguration
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS software supports the Nokia Autoconfiguration feature.Autoconfiguration allows the automatic integration of the BTS into the GSMnetwork.
Advanced BTS diagnostics and alarm management
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS features an advanced BTS diagnostics system thatreduces the number of alarms considerably. Relevant alarm information is easilyaccessible and understandable.
5.3 Software updates
Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS can store two SW packages in its memory: SW can beloaded either locally with Nokia SiteWizard, or remotely from the BSC or the NMS(via the BSC). Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS software can be downloaded as abackground operation without interrupting the BTS operation. The new software canbe activated at any time suitable for the operator.
With the next SW release, Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS will also support 4-waydiversity, Intelligent Shutdown, Remote MMI, Extended Cell, AMR speech coding,and RSSI Antenna Monitoring features.

Transceiver Baseband unit (1- 6 units)The Transceiver Baseband unit (TRX BB2) is a digital signal processing board,
consisting of two independent baseband modules; each module functionsindependently for its own TRX RF unit. The transceiver baseband unit also controlsfrequency hopping.
6.2.2 Duplexers
Dual Duplex unit (0-6 units)The Dual Duplex Unit (DDU) performs duplex operation of TX and RX signals intoa common antenna, and provides filtering and amplification for main and diversityreceive signals, before they are fed to TRX RF units via multicoupler. The unitcontains a variable gain LNA for optimal amplification of the receive signal, fromthe optional Masthead Amplifier.
The DDU is sub-banded for GSM 1800 to increase TX/RX separation and achievebetter performance. Each sub-banded unit has 50 MHz passband width, so theyprovide the needed overlap to fit most operator spectrum allocations.
Dual Band Duplex unit (0-6 units)The Dual Band Duplex unit combines outputs from GSM 900 and GSM 1800 dualduplex units, or RTCs into one antenna feeder.
6.2.3 Combiners
Wideband Combiner (0-9 units)The Wideband Combiner (WBC) combines two transmitter outputs into one.
When using the WBC, the Dual Duplex Unit is required.
Remote Tune Combiner (0-2 units)The Remote Tune Combiner (RTC) combines up to six transmitter outputs into oneantenna. It also provides filtering and amplification for main and diversity receive(RX) signals, before they are fed to the TRX RF units via the multicoupler.

6.2.4 MulticouplersReceive Multicoupler unit (1-2 or 1-6 units)The Receive Multicoupler unit (RMC) distributes RX signals to TRX RF units.There is a 6-way unit, always used with an RTC, and a 2-way unit, to be used in mostWBC or combining by-pass configurations. One unit performs signal splitting forboth main and diversity branches.
6.2.5 Booster
Booster (0-6 units)The Booster unit works in conjunction with the Transceiver RF unit (TRX RF) byboosting its output. Each Booster unit takes one TRX RF unit slot. The DDU is usedto convey the booster signal to antenna feeder.
6.2.6 MHA and Bias Tee
Masthead Amplifier (0-12 units)There is a Masthead Amplifier (MHA) specifically designed for Nokia UltraSiteGSM BTS to deliver 33 dB RX gain in GSM 1800/GSM 1900 units and 32 dB RXgain in GSM 900 units, low RX noise figure (improved RX sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio) and low TX loss in a compact, low volume, lightweight sealed enclosure.Bias Tee/VSWR unit (0-12 units)The Bias Tee provides DC power, via an RF cable, to the Masthead Amplifier.
There are 2 versions of the Bias Tee:
Bias Tee without VSWR antenna monitoring
Bias Tee with VSWR antenna monitoring
VSWR monitoring systematically checks the condition of the antenna line and givesan alarm if the VSWR (Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) value exceeds 2.6.

6.2.7 TransmissionTransmission units (1-4)The Transmission unit takes care of connecting Nokia UltraSite GSM BTSs witheach other and to the rest of the network (e.g., BSC, and Talk-family and MetroSitesites), through the Abis interface. The transmission media can be either radio link,wire line (E1/T1), or fibre optic cable (STM-1). Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS supports16 kbit/s, 32 kbit/s, and 64 kbit/s Abis TRX RF signalling. The O&M signallingspeed can be 16 kbit/s or 64 kbit/s.
Radio transmission
The following radio link transmission unit is available for Nokia UltraSite GSMBTS:
FXC RRI: 16 x 2 Mbit/s, support for each of 2 Flexbus connections, grooming,branching, and loop protection support, cross-connection on 8 kbit/s level.
FXC RRI transmission units are connected to Nokia FlexiHopper Microwave Radioor Nokia MetroHopper Radio with a coaxial cable referred to as Flexbus. Moreover,when multiple cabinets are located at the same site, it is possible to connect BTScabinets together using simple one cable Flexbus, provided by RRI units.
The FXC RRI operates as a repeater and interconnects Nokia UltraSite GSM BTSand the BSC using point-to-point, chain, star, or loop network configurations.

Fibre optic transmission
The following units are available for fibre optic transmission in Nokia UltraSiteGSM BTS:
FXC STM-1: 155 Mbit/s support for fibre optic cable, signal termination,cross-connection on 8 kbit/s, synchronisation, management channelprocessing, and a CPU circuitry for unit control.
FXC Bridge: Bridge for the signals between the SDH part of the BTS and thePDH cross-connect of the FXC. Includes Q1 management and crossconnection on 8 kbit/s, 16 kbit/s, 32 kbit/s, 64 kbit/s, and 2 Mbit/s level.

star, or loop network configurations.

Wire line transmission
The following wire line transmission units are available for Nokia UltraSite GSMBTS:
FC E1/T1: 1 x 2 Mbit/s (E1) or 1 x 1.5 Mbit/s (T1) PCM connection, onecoaxial 75-ohm TX and one coaxial 75-ohm RX connector for E1 use, onetwisted pair 120-/100-ohm TX/RX interface connector for either E1 or T1 use.
FXC E1: 4 x 2 Mbit/s (E1) PCM connections, four coaxial 75-ohm TX andfour coaxial 75-ohm RX connectors for E1 use, grooming, branching, and loopprotection support, cross-connection down to 8 kbit/s level.
FXC E1/T1: 4 x 2 Mbit/s (E1) or 4 x 1.5 Mbit/s (T1) PCM connections, fourtwisted pair 120-/100-ohm TX/RX interface connectors for either E1 or T1use, grooming, branching, and loop protection support, cross-connectiondown to 8 kbit/s level. Interfaces can be configured independently either E1 orT1 mode.
The FC E1/T1 operates as the termination point in a star or chain topology network.The FXC E1 and FXC E1/T1 operate as branching points and interconnect NokiaUltraSite GSM BTS and the BSC using point-to-point, chain, star, or loop networkconfigurations.
6.2.8 Common units
Base Operations and Interfaces unit (1 unit)The Base Operations and Interfaces (BOIA) unit takes care of the control functionscommon to all other units: O&M functions, main clock functions, and external alarmcollection.

DC power supply provides full redundancy for up to 12 TRX configurations. WithAC power supply, redundancy is fully supported only for up to 6 TRX
configurations. With EDGE, power supply redundancy can be reduced.
The power supply unit also provides power feed for Masthead Amplifiers.
6.2.9 Temperature Control System
Cabinet Cooling Fan (1 unit)The Cabinet Cooling Fan is a door-mounted fan, which is part of the OutdoorApplication Kit.
Unit Fan (11 units)The Unit Fans are modules of the cabinet core, which come with the cabinet delivery.The BOIA controls the fan units according to temperature information from otherunits. The cooling is performed by adjusting the rotation speed of the fans. Smoothspeed variations also minimise the noise generated by the fan units.
Heater unit (0-1unit)The Heater unit is needed in Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS Outdoor to cold start theBTS when operating in temperatures between -10 and -33C (+14 to -27F). It willalso maintain interior cabinet temperature during extreme cold operation.
6.2.10 Battery Backup
Integrated Battery Backup
The Integrated Battery Backup (IBBU) consists of batteries and rectifiers. It fits intothe bottom half of Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS. It is used to ensure continual powersupply when the AC mains power breaks down. The IBBU is capable of producingpower for up to 18 TRXs in 2 BTS cabinets.

6.2.11 Electromechanical kits

The Outdoor Application Kit consists of a door, a back, a roof, a plinth for one BTS
cabinet, two side panels, and the required mounting hardware. The OutdoorApplication Kit also contains a cabinet fan inside the front door, which is required toprovide additional cooling for outdoor installations. The heat exchanger has beeneliminated from Nokia UltraSite GSM BTS.

6.3.1 RF unitsTransceiver unit (1-3 units)The Transceiver unit consists of a Transmitter and Receiver (WTR). On the transmitside, the WTR receives digital data from the Signal Processing unit (WSP) via theSumming and Multiplexing unit (WSM) and performs modulation and up conversionof the carrier which is amplified by the Power Amplifier (WPA). On the receive side,the WTR performs channel selection and down conversion for the selected carrier.The received signal is digitized and connected to the WSP via the WSM.
Power Amplifier (1-3 units)The Power Amplifier (WPA) is a multicarrier amplifier with an operating bandwidthof any 20 MHz section on the whole 60 MHz WCDMA allocation. WPAs have thefunctionality for distributing input signals from WTRs and summing the outputsignals when two amplifiers are used in parallel to one sector.
Input Combiner (1 unit)The Input Combiner (WIC) unit accommodates an Ethernet hub for the TLCI-bus.
6.3.2 Antenna Coupling
Antenna Filter (1-3 units)The Antenna Filter (WAF) combines and isolates TX/RX signals and amplifiesreceived signals. The unit contains a receiver multicoupler with 4 outputs for mainbranch and 4 outputs for diversity branch. The WAF is capable of feeding operatingpower for two Masthead Amplifier (MHA) units.
6.3.3 Baseband units
Signal Processing unit (1-6 units)The Signal Processing unit (WSP) performs RX and TX code channel processing,coding, and decoding functions. 6.3.4 TransmissionTransmission Interface Unit (1 unit)The Transmission Interface Unit (IFU) connects to the transmission media or to co-sited GSM BTSs. Separate plug-in units, which internally interface to the ATMswitch unit, are available for microwave radio, fibre optic, and wire linetransmission.
ATM Cross Connection Unit (1 unit)The ATM Cross Connection Unit (AXU) is the connecting element between theApplication Managers (WAM) and the Transmission Interface Units (IFU). TheAXU can handle ATM cross-connections at a transmission network level.
6.3.5 Common units
System Clock (1 unit)The System Clock (WSC) performs synchronization functions and reference clockgeneration to the WCDMA part of the BTS.
Power Supply (1 unit)The Power Supply (WPS) provides operating voltages for the different units in theWCDMA part of the BTS.
Application Manager (1 unit)The Application Manager (WAM) performs O&M functions and carrier control. Oneof the WAMs is the master controller for the WCDMA part of the BTS and performscommon O&M functions, such as operational software local storing and distributing,configuration management, alarm collection, and handling.
Summing and Multiplexing (1 unit)The Summing and Multiplexing (WSM) unit routes and distributes digital bitstreams between Transmitters and Receivers (WTR) and Signal Processors (WSP).
