1.Hello, welcome to ITK Magazine, first of all, I want tosay the following...your brand is wicked...tell us moreabout it?

Firstly thank you so much for the love, muchappreciated....The brand, iSkapie, started when Irealized just how much I loved cothes and fromthere it grew. As time went I noticed that guys arenot really catered for in terms of variety especially in

PE (where I am from), I mean if you not shopping atEdgars, its Truworths if not that its Vertigo...and soiSkapie was born.

    2. Seriously now, what does i Skapie mean? To me itsounded like a sheep in the Cape? Ha ha

LOl, the term is largely a Eastern Cape term, iSkapie isbasically a person who lacks conventional style, aperson who dresses in thier own way so he does notfit in with the masses...in some places they call theseguys these iBharu or iSlaaptiger and the list goes on.

    3. When did you start designing? Was this always yourpassion?

Well I started with engineering studies first to makemy folks happy which barely qualifies as designing Iknow, but I always wanted to do fashion and that Istarted about 6 years ago.

    4. Where do you stock your brand?

We used to stork a boutique called A-list last season, butnow we are opting to find more alternative forms of sellingour stuff i.e The Old Biscuit Mill Market which happensevery Saturday or directly from our Facebook page etc

    5. Have you heard of WOZA (Wear Only ZA)?

Yes we have, in fact I normally wear the badge myself, great campaign.

    6. Do you think that the men in South Africa on top ofit, when it comes to fashion?

Well there is always room for development, but in the last10 years we have improved in leaps and bounds, amreally proud of what the guys have achieved.

    7. What is your worst men's fashion mistake?

We call these Fashion Ooops lool, but to be fair

everyone has their own style of dressing and that is whatiSkapie is about, being an individual

    8. Any international vision? Where would be yourultimate destination to get recognition?

New York or London Fashion Week

9.Tell us about the fabrics you use, why you chose touse them and are you a proudsupporter of local manufacturing?

Definitely, everything we make is 110% locally made, from sourcing of the fabric and themanufacturing,. In terms of fabrics, for the summerwe used a whole of cotton voile for our shirts which isa nice cool material making it perfect for thesummer sun.

    10. Have you ever designed something OTT wheresomeone may have saidwords along the line Daahling, seriously, what areyou wearing?

Yes I have, I made a graduation gown that wasinspired by Smarties (the sweets yes).

so you can imagine how colourful this dress was, but Iended up winning the Most Creative Range so it wasall good in the end :-)

    11. If Julius Malema asked you to put together attirefor him, what would be theultimate look you would put him in?

LOL, wow really...well I think he would pull off one ofour iSkapie khaki chinoswith a slick sandal, topped with our Dashida shirtwhich we are dropping this summer.

Paul, Paul, Paul...., you are clearly determined and passionate

about what you do, thanks for being on my case, how are you

doing? The past weekend I listened to one of your tribal mixes and I

have to just say that it was brilliant.....a real experience and

definitely made me want to get on the dancefloor, how long have

you been dj-ing for and was this always the way forward for you?

I have been DJIng since 1193 and my first real club gig was in TheAsylum club in Dublin which closed down in 1995. It was amazingand I nearly did not play because of nerves, but I am glad that Idid. I played there for 6 months every Friday and Saturday and soldmany mix tapes etc.I also ended up playing twice a week onPirate Radio Kiss FM in Dublin until 1998.

What kind of stamina does one need, persuing a DJ/Producer

    career? Are there any pitfalls?

It takes a lot of Hard work, persistance and lots of days ofheartache! But when things come together its all worth it. Youhave to love of the music in you, otherwise you will give up.

Tell us a bit more about Redbox Records

I started REDBOX records when I returned to Ireland in 2008. I livedin the UK for 7 years. I owned a record shop for nearly 2 years. Ithen decided that I wanted to promote unsigned artist in Irelandand help grow their popularity. Getting signed to bigger labels aretough, so giving them a platform to grow is what made me and stillmakes me happy. What is your favourite style of music currently?

Im big into Tribal House & Techno. I have played a lot of styles ofmusic but Tribal has a big resonance with me.

    INTERNATIONAL DJ

You seem to have done a lot of colabs, what are the ones that stands out

    the most?

I love working, with new people in the scene and will always look for this inthe future. At the moment Im working on an album with Nightwave DJ

booking agency (www.nightwavebooking.com) to help promote REDBOXand the agency, and Im also working with several people globally to

promote producers and DJs on some other albums. I cant say there has

been one I prefer, I love everything that involves doing new stuff withpeople.

    INTERNATIONAL DJ

Youre international career is on the uptake, who would you like to workwith next and where do you want to be in 5 years from now?

Yes, Im hoping things will look better in the near future. Im gathering a

good following throughmy radio shows and been the director of the label.Im playing across the globe next year ; Miami, Brazil, England, Spain,

Germany and with help of Nightwave DJ Booking, so Im hoping this willhelp me to play more gigs. I would love to play the Exit Festival, I think itsone of the best underground festivanl in Europe.

When you are not in the studio, what do you in your down time?

To be hones, I dont get much free time, the label and promoting myself

takes up a lot of time. Otherwise, I would normally go to the cinema or outto dinner with my girl.

All time favourite classic dance tune?

Aah, thats very hard, because I like a lot of different styles, it definitely is a

hard one. In fact, one that does come to mind is, SKYDIV-FREEFALL &RESSE Project-DIRECT ME (Sashas 3am drop mix)

If you could re-mix or do a reproduce one of your favourite tune, what

    would it be and why?

I would probably remix the above two tracks, maybe with a tribal feel tothem.

Words of wisdom to aspiring DJs / Producers?

Never give up, no matter what your into; DJ/Producer or whatever youwant to do in the music industry. Its a very hard industry, and even at thisstage, im not where I want to be, set goels, and do your best to stick tothem! It may take a long time to get to where you want, only thededicated make it anywhere in the music industry! The love of the music

will drive you! If it does not, dont bother!

    ReviewThe Reserve

Clubbing in Cape Town has just become the best experience ever. First ofall, I have not had a good night out in the city for a very long time. For your

discerning clubber, looking for a night venue that presents you with Class,Glamour and sheerHedonism, well let me just say this; Look no further!

The Reserve Club opened it doors earlier this year and it has not yet failed toproduce a good night out. The club has adopted international clubbingculture and has got it marked down to the T, making sure the patrons arefilled with entertainment and of course the best music around.

I have to admitseeing me dance on the stage at 4 in the morning is not asight you would find very often- trust me- I have partied the internationalclubbing scene for many years (what can I say, a Party Girl at heart) and itwas about the only time you would have seen me throwing my wiggle but, without failThe Reserve gets me boogying on that floor, like you have noidea.

The boys Justin and Miguel (who has worked at some of Londons top West

End night clubs such as Movida) are doing a suburb job at marketing and

conceptualising the best themed nights with their dedicated promotionsteam. It is refreshing to find real promotion and planning going into eventsthese days. Something more clubs should take into action, I believe!

One thing is for sureThe dcor, the venue, the staff are all phenomenal. Ifyou are visiting Cape Town this season, be sure to contact them in advance. There is strict dress code policy and of course a strict guest list policy. If youwant to rub shoulders with all the Uber cool fashinistas and I am sure somewell known celebs.well..then this is your place
