Dear parishioners of Our Lady and All Saints,

As you by now know, I will be leaving the parish during the summer after being here only a short time.

I have learnt a lot being with you all and have got to know many of you very well and it will be hard to leave such a diverse, busy and affectionate parish.

Basildon has been a challenge to put it lightly, but Fr Daniel and the rest of those who help in the parish have made it easier to do my pastoral work here.

As you know also, I came from a busy parish in the north west of Italy and that is where I’m going back to, but the Bishop said he will give me another one if not two parishes to look after as also there it is difficult to find vocations to the priesthood and the diocese is rather short on priests so I am desperately needed there.

I will stay in contact with Fr Daniel and some of you via Facebook or other social media and hopefully if I can, I will come and visit whenever I am in the UK.

I know that you will love Fr Rick when he arrives and pray that you treat him with the same love and affection you have shown me.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done for me.

God bless you all.

Fr Paul

Talking before Mass – Pope Francis said this at a recent General Audience in Rome: ‘When we go to Mass, maybe we arrive five minutes before, and we start to chit-chat with those around us. However, it is not a moment for chit-chat. It is a moment of silence for preparing ourselves, a time for the heart to collect itself in order to prepare for the encounter with Jesus. Silence is so important.’ Please bear the Holy Father’s teaching in mind, in order to show respect for the Blessed Sacrament, and for our fellow parishioners who are praying. Please show a good example to those around you.

Calais Light – Ever felt you’d like to help the destitute migrants in Calais but not known where to start? We run regular weekend car convoys from Brentwood Cathedral to chop veg and sort Refugee donations at the amazing Help Refugees UK Warehouse in Calais. Never mind the reasons WHY migrants are in Calais -the fact is they are there now – without resources, hungry, struggling. We feel strongly that part of our Christian mission is to support them one way or another. Please think about this and volunteer with us. If you can’t, please donate with compassion at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/calaislight. Next Trip 28th-30th Sept.
