Picture: Dennis Horgan WORK on the €60m twin fly- over project on the South Ring Road is about to enter its final phase as the massive 40-metre bridge beams are lowered into place this week. As this aerial picture shows the placement of the 100-tonne beams over the Sarsfield Road Roundabout will be one of the final elements of the project. The flyovers are set to open to traffic on schedule this July. Ireland’s largest mobile crane has been brought to Cork to carry out the lifting work this week. All 18 beams are expected to be installed by tomorrow. Once they are in place both flyovers will be substantially complete and the remaining months will spent complet- ing surfacing works, sound barriers, lighting and other minor works. ● See page five for more.
