Confused about the organization of theDlvlslon? Waltr 11 you finlsh readingthis.

Secretary of the Army Howard H.Callaway announced on April 24th theaffiliation of two resen/e component (Rc)brlgades and one RC battalion with Ewoof the new regular Army divisionseffective May"I. Yepr'*"'re one of fem.

The affiliations are the 48th InfantryBrigade (Mechanized), Georgia ArmyNational Grrard and 2nd Battalion, 117thInfantry (Mechanized), Tennessee NationalGuard with uhe 24th Infantry Division atStewart, and the 256th Infant,ry Brigade,Louislana Natlonal Guard with the 5thInfantry Division (Mechanized), atPoIk. That's in La., you know.

In the affiliation program, reser/ecomponent, units are assist,ed by theactive Army to improve their readinessfor deployment. Some affiliat,ed uniE,s,as in Lhi's case, are designated "round-outtr units. A roundout uilc comple-ments an active Army dlvision and bringsit up to sEandard size. In essence, aresen/e component roundouts brigadebecomes a part of uhe regular Army unitat mobilization.

These RC brigades and battalionswill bring us and 5th Infantry Divisioneach up to nomal division structure ofthree brigades. The active Army androundout, units wil-l plan, train, and ifnecessary, go into combaE together.

The only other Army division with aroundout brigade is the 25th InfantryDivision in Hawaii. It has had aroundout brigade from the HawaiiArmy National Guard, the 29th InfantryBrigade, and a U.S. Arrny Rese:rre roundouE,battalion, the 1008h Battalion, 442dInfantry Regiment, since L973.

Just what effect this mish-rmrsh willhave on activating other units of the24th, we dontt know. The news releasecarefullv avoids the subiect.

"I m very proud of the 80th ArmyBand, proud to b€ in it, and I can'tthink of any other job in the Armyor civilisn life that I would ratherhave," exclaims Staff SergeantDewey H. Anderson, trumpet s€ctionleader.

The 80th Amy Bandredesignated the 24th Infantry

Division Band on Oct. 21, .is a unit of20 soldiers that performs withdedication md diligence, rain ordrine, dey or night. It raises manyslutes, instills lumps in throets, brings hands a6oss hearts, removeshats, sounds attention, restores prideand faith, and brings tears to manyeyes as it plays tlle national anthem, the Amy song and other patrioticprcces.

Despite the loss of an outstandingband leader, Chief Warrant OfficerAnthony R. Bacca, who rrcentlyretired, the unit continues to stephigh in striving for perfection. CW4Bacca's successor is Master SergeantAlbert L. lrwis, enlisted band leader,a veteran of over 19 yeag experiencein music md a epable bandEonductor.

The 80th Army Band goes back to1927. The 3lst $oast Artillery Band,52d Coast Artillery Band and 80thArmy Ground Forces Band are oneand the same, and they evolved intothe 80th Army Band in 1947.
