    Extended Protection Features

    There are two Extended

    Protection features that can be

    enabled on an ADVC controller.

    1. Protection control settings per

    protection group.

    2. Individual Maximum Time setting for

each protection trip that uses an

    inverse curve.

The existing ON/OFF controls for the

    Protection Control Settings are global.

    -Protection

    -Auto Reclose

    -Negative Phase Sequence Protection

    -Earth Fault Protection

    -Sensitive Earth Fault Protection

i.e. Once configured they will apply

    regardless of which protection group

    is active.

    Extended Protection functionality

will allow the ON/OFF status for these

settings to be determined by the

    active protection group.

    Changing Protection Groups

    Group A Group B

When the Protection Group is changed, e.g. A to B,

the protection control settings may also change if the

DEFAULT settings for the selected group are different

    to the previously active settings.

    Default Protection Control Settings

When Extended Protection isenabled, each protection group

has its own DEFAULT ProtectionControl settings.

These settings are referred to asnon-volatile as they will be retained

in the protection group settingsdespite changes to the operationalsettings when their group is active.

These settings can be viewed on theoperator interface in the Engineering

    Maximum Time

    The second of the Extended

    Protection features changes the

way the Maximum Time settingcan be used.

Normally there is only one Maximum

    Time setting for each protection

    Group.

Maximum Time is a Global setting

which means that it applies to all trip

settings in that group which use an

    inverse curve for timing.

    Extended Protection provides a

    separate Maximum Time setting for

each inverse curve that has been

    applied. (Max 18)

    Extended Protection reduces the

    minimum value for Maximum Time

    settings from 2.0s to 0.2s.

    Extended Protection Features - Summary

Each Protection Group has its own

    default Protection Control settings

which become active when thatProtection Group becomes active.

An operator can change the active

protection control settings but if the

changed settings are different to the

default setting for the active Protection

Group they will only survive until:

-The active Protection Group is changed.

-Another setting change is made to the

    active settings.

A separate Maximum Time setting can

be configured for each trip curve. The minimum Maximum Time setting is

    0.2s.

    Extended Protection features are

    disabled by default.
