MN2512E6A024
1.11.11.11.1 IntroductionIntroductionIntroductionIntroductionThe Message Buffer B (MB(B)) is assigned to the coordination area of a networknode. The task of the MB(B) is to control the exchange of internal system messagesbetween the following subsystems:
between the coordination processor (CP) and the line/trunk groups (LTG):
call processing messages to setup circuit connections, administrative andsafeguarding or maintenance messages
 between the LTGs themselves:
call processing messages
between the LTG and the common channel signaling network control(CCNC):
call processing messages between exchanges via common channel signaling links
between CP and switch group control (SGC):
setting instructions for switching network
In the input direction, the MB(B) receives:
Messages from the LTGs and the SGCs (for the CP)
Reports from the LTGs (for other LTGs)
Orders from the LTGs (for CCNC)
In the output direction, the MB(B) receives:
Commands from the CP (for the LTGs and the SGCs)
Reports from the LTGs (for other LTGs)
Orders from the CCNC (for the LTGs)
The MB(B) is completely duplicated and comprises an MB(B)0 and an MB(B)1. Theyoperate on a load-sharing basis. Depending on the capacity stage, the MB(B) canaccommodate up to four message buffer groups (MBG). MB(B)0 comprisesMBG00...MBG03, and MB(B)1 comprises MBG10...MBG13.
The MB(B) is connected to each TSG of the SN(B) via the 8Mbps highway SDC:TSG0, as if it was LTG0. To the CP113, a byte parallel interface is used.
TIPBecause there is no redundant connection between MB(B) and SN(B) , a switchingnetwork half is not accessible if the corresponding message buffer fails!

1.21.21.21.2 HardwareHardwareHardwareHardwareThe message buffer comprises up to four message buffer groups. A MBG consistsof the following functional units:
one or two message buffer units for line/trunk groups (MBU:LTG)
message buffer unit for switch group control (MBU:SGC)
 clock generator (CG)
multiplexer (MUX), forming the interface to the switching network
interface adapter to the IOP:MB of the CP113
Message buffer unit for line/trunk groups (MBU:LTG)
The MBU:LTG consists of a maximum of four transmitter receiver controls (T/RC)and one message distribution module (MDM). The T/RC module can service amaximum of 16 line/trunk groups (LTG). An MBU:LTG thus enables a EWSD node tobe extended in stages of 16 LTGs. The T/RCs in an MBU:LTG are connected to amessage distribution module. This module distributes the messages arriving fromthe IOP:MB to the respective T/RC module and collects the messages injected intothe T/RC modules by the LTGs in order to forward them to the IOP:MBs.
Message buffer unit for switch group control / Interface adapter
The MBU:SGC is combined with the interface adapter to the IOP:MB on the moduleinput/output processor and control (IOPC). It transmits call setup commands to theswitch group controllers of the switching network and receives safeguardingmessages from them. It connects up to three SGCBs of the switching network, twoTSGs and one SSG.
The interface part of the IOPC module is connected via a redundant byte-parallelinterface to the corresponding IOP:MBs of the coordination processor CP 113.
Clock generator / Multiplexer
Every MBG contains a clock generator (CG). This is accommodated with themultiplexer in one module (CG/MUX) and performs the following tasks:
generates the node clock of 8192 kHz and the 2kHz frame mark bit (FMB - forsynchronization)
receives the synchronization clock (8kHz) from one of the two central clockgenerators (CCG(A)). The SYCLK synchronize the timing signals generated in theCG. The first MBU:LTG of an MBG supervises the CG and reports alarms to theCP113C/CR.
The multiplexer is connected to the switching network via two secondary multiplexlines (one for each MBU:LTG). Messages are exchanged with the relevant LTG via63 incoming and outgoing channels on each of these lines.

1.31.31.31.3 Capacity StagesCapacity StagesCapacity StagesCapacity StagesThe following capacity stages are available for a EWSD node:
 for 63 LTGs
 for 126 LTGs
 for 252 LTGs
 for 504 LTGs
This corresponds with the four possible SN(B) sizes for the EWSD system (SN(B)63,SN(B)126, SN(B)252) and SN(B)504. The following relationship exists between thiscapacity stages and the necessary MB(B) hardware (for both, SN0 and SN1):
SN(B) size SGCBs MBGs MBU:LTGs MBU:SGCs
SN(B)63 1 1 1 1
SN(B)126 3 1 2 1
SN(B)252 6 2 4 2
SN(B)504 12 4 8 4
The SN(B)63 has no separated TSG and SSG, only one SGCB is needed. Thus, onlyone MBU:LTG is equipped and only one SDC:TSG and SDC:SGC is used in MB0 andMB1. Fig. 3 shows an example for the capacity stages of the SN sizes 63 to 252. Forthe SN(B)504, everything in the picture is needed twice.

1.41.41.41.4 Message Channel UsageMessage Channel UsageMessage Channel UsageMessage Channel UsageEach MBU:LTG is connected to a time stage of the switching network (SN(B)) via amultiplex line (SDC:TSG) as highway number 0. The multiplex lines carry 128 timeslots. This corresponds to a bit rate of 128×64kbps = 8192kbps. Only 63 channels(time slot 2, 4, 6, ...126) are used for transporting messages to and from the LTGs(time slot 0 is used as a test loop for the MB(B)).
On every SDC:LTG time slot 0 is reserved for message transport. In the transmissiondirection LTG→MBU:LTG, the switching network transfers the messages sent fromthe group processors (GP) of the LTGs in channel 0 of the speech highway SDC:LTGto the channel assigned to the respective LTG on the multiplex line SDC:TSG to theMBU:LTG. The used time slot on the SDC:TSG can easily calculated by multiplyingthe LTG number with 2 (e.g. channel 0 of the SDC:LTG line of LTG2 is switched tochannel 4 of the SDC:TSG line to the MBG).
The exchange of messages between the LTGs and the MB(B) is normally distributedover both sides of the switching network (SN(B)0, SN(B)1, load distribution).Theunused message channels on the second SDC:LTG of every LTG are configured tostandby (see STAT LTG). Upon failure of an active message channel, the CP initiatesthe configuration of the message channel in the other SN half to active.
The following table shows the standard distribution of active message channels:
