did not suffer any further losses but were maintained at $366k against 2009/2010’s $368k. The auditors, MGI were re-appointed as auditors for the next financial year 2011/2012.

Under AOB, the Management Committee answered questions submitted by Mr Henry Phua and Mr Parga Singh, the latter having raised concerns over the affiliation of TGC with CBC. It was explained to the members that the TGC’s affiliation benefitted two-fold: to the members, it offered additional and alternative facilities and to the Club, increased business opportunities and community outreach. Members were also told that the affiliation agreement was for a period of one year. The AGM ended at 5.25p.m with a note of thanks by the Chairman, Mr Wilson Chua to the members for their attendance and support.

CLUB HAPPENINGS

The 23rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Changi Beach Club was held on Sunday, 26 June 2011 3.00pm at the Chan Ah Kow Hall. In attendance were 34 members and spouses were also invited in to listen to the proceedings.

The Chairman opened the meeting with a speech reiterating points mentioned in his Annual Report message, and this was followed by the approval of the Minutes of the 22nd Annual General Meeting. Before the Financial Statements for FY2010/FY2011 were discussed, the Hon Treasurer informed the meeting that Loke Lum and Partners, the auditors appointed in the last AGM had resigned in February 2011, before the start of the audit. No reason was provided by Loke Lum for the resignation. Steps were then taken to source quotations from 3 other auditing firms and after due process of review by the Audit Committee, MGI was recommended to take over as auditors. Members at the AGM approved that MGI be retrospectively appointed as the auditor for the financial year 2010/2011.

The Hon Treasurer then, with the help of charts and graphs, presented a financial overview; highlighting areas that affected the results of the financial year 2010/2011. Jackpot profits plunged by 28% or $262k but fortunately with the aggressive membership drive of Vision 5000, 130 members joined contributing entrance fees of $373k. The increased losses of the Deck Bar were highlighted and the MC concurred with some members that further measures should be looked into to curb future losses. With extra efforts by the management and staff to control operating costs, monitor subsidies for sports and social and improve the occupancy of the chalets, the net results for the year

The competition kicked off after the players enjoyed a light breakfast. After two hours of mentally-draining games, the participants took a well-deserved respite by tucking into a scrumptious local-style buffet lunch. Thereafter, the players returned for another two rounds of intense competition.

The top prizes and lucky draws winners were announced by Mr Stanley Foo, Social Chairman.

Club Chairman, Mr Wilson Chua and Hon Treasurer, Mrs Amy Teo together with the Mahjong convenors, Mrs Nancy Wee and Mrs Betsy Tan gave out the prizes.

Special thanks to all the member helpers who helped out on the day.

See you all at the next Mahjong Competition!

On 8 May 2011, a lovely Sunday morning, members and their families gathered at the Club to embark on the journey to celebrate Mother’s Day. The pretty mummies were presented with CBC customised foldable travel bag as a special gift for this occasion. The group went for a delectable ala-carte buffet lunch to fill their tummies. Yummy and delicious food such as coffee ribs, fried venison with black pepper and hot mashed taro with ginko nuts were part of the mouth-watering dishes. After lunch, the group proceeded to boost their wealth luck by making wishes at the Fountain of Wealth at Suntec City. The next highlight of the day was the wacky duck ride which brought our excited participants through the splashing fun ride into the Marina Bay which also took them on a drive through the city hall area gaining insight the rich history of the surroundings.
