The Water of Life Outdoor Ministries Curriculum © 2016 Lutheran Outdoor Ministries. Purchasers of this cur- riculum may make copies for their local use only. Lower Elementary & Day Camp Bible Study Welcome Welcome to the lower elementary and day camp Bible study cur- riculum The Water of Life. This Bible study engages campers and their leaders with biblical stories about how water transforms the lives of all people in physical and spiritual ways. Water is used throughout scripture to teach about God and how much God loves us. The theme verse will be important to repeatedly share with campers: “When you pass through the waters, I will be with you” (Isaiah 43:2). This verse will help campers know that even when life is hard, confusing, or scary, God is with us. While campers will easily grasp the literal stories of cleans- ing, healing, and quenching thirst, the spiritual aspects will be more challenging for them. Each story reiterates that all are wel- come in God’s family and that Jesus changes our hearts to be more like him. Our response is that we participate in God’s mission by sharing God’s love and message with our family and friends. Each day campers will have the opportunity to think about how they and others use water, how to care for this precious re- source, and consider the impact their usage of water has on the rest of the world. Objectives This Bible study will help lower elementary and day camp camp- ers and their leaders: Understand that water is an important theme throughout scripture and is an important resource for our life on earth. Experience God’s gift of water both literally and spiritually. Practice tangible ways to care for creation and invite others into God’s community.
