It was the Rainiers first 1-0 win of the season and the team’s 9th, dating back to 2009 (last: 6/25 vs. Reno). 2B Daniel Robertson (4x5, R) and RF Mike Baxter (2x4) each recorded multi-hit games, while Romero (1x5, 2B, RBI, BB), CF Boog Powell (1x6), SS Chris Taylor (1x3) and DH Dario Pizzano (1x3) each collected 1 of the Rainiers 10 hits. The greatest talents from the PCL and International League will converge at Cheney Stadium on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 for the showcase to be televised nationally on MLB Network. This will mark the 30th anniversary of the Triple-A All-Star game. 2017 will mark the first time the Tacoma franchise, members of the Pacific Coast League since 1960, have hosted the Triple-A All-Star Game. The contest has been held annually since 1988, and rotates between International League and Pacific Coast League locations. The selection of Cheney Stadium and the Rainiers to host the 2017 Triple-A All-Star Game also marks the first time since 2013 that a Mariners affiliate has hosted an All-Star event.

WELCOME TO TACOMA: The Mariners acquired right-handed starter Zach Lee from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for INF Chris Taylor on June 19. Lee, 24, was 7-5 with a 4.89 ERA (40 ER, 73.2 IP) with 57 strikeouts in 13 starts with AAA Oklahoma City. He allowed 10 earned runs in his start on April 28, and not including that game, he has posted a 3.84 ERA (30 ER, 70.1 IP) in his 12 other starts. He made his Major League debut with the Dodgers last season, going 0-1 with a 13.50 ERA (7 ER, 4.2 IP) with 3 strikeouts in 1 start. In parts of 6 minor league seasons, all in the Dodgers organization, Lee is 52-46 with a 3.98 ERA (318 ER, 720.0 IP) with 564 strikeouts in 139 games, including 135 starts. He was originally drafted by Los Angeles-NL in the 1st round (28th overall) of the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of McKinney, Texas. He was listed as a Baseball America Top-100 prospect prior to the 2011 (#89), 2012 (#62) and 2014 (#95) seasons. OF NOTE:

RECAP: Starter Sam Gaviglio and RH Kyle Schepel combined on a 3-hit shutout as Jackson closed out the first half of the season with a 4-0 win over Tennessee on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Generals finished the 2016 Southern League First Half at 46-24, setting a new record for most wins in a half in franchise history. The previous record was 45 wins set by the 1999 and 2000 West Tenn Diamond Jaxx. Gaviglio (7.0,2,0,0,1,5) earned his 4th win of the season, allowing only 2 hits, 1 walk and striking out 5 over 7.0 shutout innings. Schepel (2.0,1,0,0,1,1) tossed a scoreless 8th and 9th inning to secure the win of the Generals. 1B Patrick Brady (2x3, R) recorded the team’s only multi-hit contests, while CF Guillermo Heredia (1x3, R, BB), SS Benji Gonzalez (1x3, R, HR, 3 RBI), RH Tyler O’Neill (1x2, 2 BB), DH D.J. Peterson (1x4) and 3B Brock Hebert (1x4, R) each collected 1 of the Generals 7 hits. Gonzalez hit his 2nd home run of the season with a 2-run blast with 1 out in the 7th inning.

FIRST HALF CHAMPIONS: The Generals clinched the Southern League North Division First Half Title with a 3-2 13-inning win over the Mississippi Braves on Saturday night, becoming the first team in all of Minor League Baseball to secure a playoff spot. It is the first playoff berth for Jackson since the Generals won the 2012 North Division First Half Title with a 42-28 first half record. Friday May 12th was the first time all year the Generals were not atop the North Division, as they trailed Montgomery by a half-game. HEY NOW YOU ARE AN ALL-STAR: The Southern League of Professional Baseball Clubs announced the roster for the North Division in the 2016 All-Star Game, and 8 Generals were selected as Mid-Season All-Stars. Outfielders Tyler O’Neill and Guillermo Heredia are joined by pitchers Brett Ash, Emilio Pagan (promoted to AAA Tacoma), Dylan Unsworth, Ryan Yarbrough, Edwin Diaz (promoted to Seattle) and RH Dan Altavilla. The Generals have more All-Stars than any other team in the division, and the 7 selections are the most for the club since 2012. The 2016 All-Star Game will take place June 21 at Trustmark Park in Pearl, Mississippi, home of the Mississippi Braves. All-Star rosters were voted on by Southern League field managers, general managers, radio broadcasters and print media. Right-handed reliever Dan Altavilla was added to the North Division squad on June, taking the spot of RHP Emilio Pagan, who was promoted to AAA Tacoma.

o CRAZY 8’S - O’Neill (3x4, R, 2B, HR, 8 RBI, SF) drove in a career-high 8 runs on June 8 in Jackson’s 8-4 win over Pensacola on June 8…his previous-high was 4, which he recorded 7 times in his career (last: 8/19/15 vs. Lake Elsinore w/Bakersfield).

o RBI STREAK – O’Neill has recorded a RBI in 8 consecutive games (13 RBI), May 23-31…he currently leads the Southern League with 42 RBI this season.

o GETTING ON BASE – O’Neill reached base safely in his first 28 games of the season, the 2nd-longest on-base streak in the Southern League this season, April 7-May 10 (trails only teammate Zach Shank’s 29 consecutive on-base streak, April 7-May 17)…during the streak he hit .336 (37x110) with 18 runs scored, 7 doubles, 1 triple, 6 home runs, 22 RBI, 1 HBP, 11 walks and 2 stolen bases.
