Understand signaling procedures for:
Call process
Intra Frequency HO process
Intra freq HO signaling RL addition
Intra freq HO signaling RL deletion
Intra freq inter RNC HO signaling RL addition
Inter freq ho signaling
Inter RAT ho signaling
Location update process

Outgoing Call process signaling
In the coming slides we will explain the main signaling stages for an
outgoing call signaling process which is divided into the following
main parts
Page 3
1. RRC setup
2. Signaling connection setup
3. Authentication and Security Mode Control Procedure
4. Call Setup Procedure (Outgoing Call)
5. The RAB setup procedure is performed to set up a user plane bearer.

RRC setup
Then the RNC start negotiating with the Node B to activate a Radio
link
M.Adly

Page 3
RRC setup
Then the RNC start preparing a transmission channel on the IUB
between it and the Node b
M.Adly

Page 3
RRC setup
Finally the RNC send a setup request to the mobile and when the UE
send back a setup complete message so the RRC is successfully
assigned

Now if we are checking from Assistant what we will get is like this:

Signaling connection setup:
The signaling connection setup procedure is performed between the
UE and the CN to exchange NAS information, such as information
about authentication, service request, and connection setup.
CC --------connection confirm
CJ -------- connection rejectM.Adly

And from assistant it is like below:

Call Setup Procedure :
The UE sends to the SRNC an UPLINK DIRECT TRANSFER
message that contains the number of the called number and the
information about the bearing capability of the call.

Call Setup Procedure :
The CN sends a DIRECT TRANSFER message to the SRNC. The
message indicates CALL PROCEEDING and contains the
information about the negotiated bearing capability of the call.

Then the RAB assignment process starts (we will explain in details)

The CN sends an RAB ASSIGNMENT REQUEST message to the
SRNC to initiate the RAB setup procedure.

Then the CN and the SRNC start arranging the transmission link for
this specific service and according to its QOS

RAB assignment
The SRNC sends to the NodeB a RADIO LINK RECONFIGURATION
PREPARE message, requesting the NodeB to prepare for adding one or more
DCHs to the existing radio links for carrying the RAB.
The NodeB allocates the appropriate resources and then sends a RADIO
LINK RECONFIGURATION READY message to the SRNC.

The Iub ALCAP at the SRNC initiates a setup procedure for an Iub user plane
transport bearer. The NodeB and the SRNC perform synchronization by
exchanging uplink and downlink synchronization frames in the DCH frame
protocol.

The SRNC sends a RADIO BEARER SETUP message to the UE.
The SRNC sends a RADIO LINK RECONFIGURATION COMMIT message to the NodeB.

After performing radio bearer setup, the UE sends a RADIO BEARER
SETUP COMPLETE message to the SRNC.
The SRNC sends an RAB ASSIGNMENT RESPONSE message to the CN.

In case of a PS session we will find a PDP activation request and success in the
signaling like below
As you can see it start with the RAB start and success after the RAB success
