We are connuing to think about The Perished Kingdom, and on Friday we read from Genesis 11:1-8 (the account of the tower of Babel). Mr Wright commented on how, on first reading, God’s response to the people building a tower seems a big extreme. It was good to be reminded that somemes, as we read the scriptures, we need to step back and think through the wider context of what is happening. Mr Wright explained that the sin of the people here was, in essence, the same as Adam and Eve's sin - and our sin. These people were “wanng to make a name” for themselves, and in the process, remove God from His righul place as creator and King, and make themselves king. Mr Wright helpfully explained that things like lying, stealing, jealousy and all those other things we think of as sins are actually symptoms of sin. The underlying sin is saying to God, “I reject you as Lord, and instead place myself on the throne. We effecvely say, "I will not obey or trust you, I am King - not you, God". As all "sins" are symptoms of the same sin, this helps us make sense of Jesus' death on the cross. As Mr Wright explained, Jesus didn't die “a lile” for one person and “a lot” for someone else - there is no hierarchy of sin, all sin is abhorrent in God's eyes, but can be forgiven because of the death of the Lord Jesus on the cross. This is why we are encouraged not to compare our “goodness” or how bad we are with others, but to look to Jesus, see that He alone is the perfect, Holy One, and to see that it is Him on whom we must rely to be reconciled to God the Father. This reminder is so helpful as we prepare for our special Easter assembly (on Friday 22/3) and Easter in a few weeks’ me. A reminder that these arcles, and an opportunity to comment on them, can also be found on my blog. Secondary Parent Teacher Interviews Tuesday 12 th and Thursday 14 th March, 2013

Mr Petts, Chaplain

Before moving (next week) onto the 4th G in the Peacewise principles, I would like to share with you some of the very helpful thoughts

presented by Mr Wright at last Friday’s 7-12 assembly.

We are continuing to think about The Perished Kingdom, and on Friday we read from Genesis 11:1-8 (the account of the tower of Babel). Mr Wright commented on how, on first reading, God’s response to the people building a tower seems a big extreme. It was good to be reminded that sometimes, as we read the scriptures, we need to step back and think through the wider context of what is happening. Mr Wright explained that the sin of the people here was, in essence, the same as Adam and Eve's sin - and our sin. These people were “wanting to make a name” for themselves, and in the process, remove God from His rightful place as creator and King, and make themselves king.

Mr Wright helpfully explained that things like lying, stealing, jealousy and all those other things we think of as sins are actually symptoms of sin. The underlying sin is saying to God, “I reject you as Lord, and instead place myself on the throne. We effectively say, "I will not obey or trust you, I am King - not you, God".

As all "sins" are symptoms of the same sin, this helps us make sense of Jesus' death on the cross. As Mr Wright explained, Jesus didn't die “a little” for one person and “a lot” for someone else - there is no hierarchy of sin, all sin is abhorrent in God's eyes, but can be forgiven because of the death of the Lord Jesus on the cross. This is why we are encouraged not to compare our “goodness” or how bad we are with others, but to look to Jesus, see that He alone is the perfect, Holy One, and to see that it is Him on whom we must rely to be reconciled to God the Father. This reminder is so helpful as we prepare for our special Easter assembly (on Friday 22/3) and Easter in a few weeks’ time.

2013 PRIMARY ZONE SWIMMING REPORT

On Tuesday the 26th of February 2013, 26 students from Years 3-6 in primary at Nowra Christian School participated in the South Coast Zone Swimming Carnival. We were all up bright and early and some of us had to wait a long time until our races were on. Students such as Eden Green and Lachlan White had about five or more races. In quite a few races there were records broken and personal best times set. Cody Waller and Joel Clifton were enjoying the events so much that they agreed to race for other NCS students who couldn’t be there. By the end of the day all of the competitors were tired, but happy that they had given their best efforts. The following students all made it through to the next level of competition – CSSA State Swimming Carnival: Joel Clifton, Taylor Clifton, Eden Green, Archie Collison, Levi White, Bryce Clifton & Jaysinta Smith. Congratulations to you all.

By Cody Waller, Olivia Clifton and Juliette Howard-Arcus.

2013 SECONDARY ZONE SWIMMING REPORT Our school team swam exceptionally well at the zone carnival achieving third place overall. Congratulations to the many students who swam their personal best. Sam Ellery broke the record for 50 metres butterfly – with a fantastic swim of 32.37 seconds. Aimee Parsons [18 years age champion]; Josh Parsons [16 years Champion] and Sam Ellery [13 years Age Champion] had excep-tionally fast swims. Our relay teams swam very well with the junior boys coming second in both the freestyle and the medley. Our intermediate girls also came second in the freestyle. Michael Green and Tayla Catling courageously lead out our super relay teams. The boys’ team was brought home with a very fast swim by Hugh Harrison. All students represented our school well showing great sportsmanship.

State swimmers

Congratulations to the following swimmers who have qualified to represent the CSSA South Coast at the State swimming carnival. This means that they came either first or second in their event.

Sam Ellery, Hugh Harrison, Michael Green, Natasha Jeffery, Ebonie Lynch, Noah McMillan, Emma Newell, Aimee Parsons, Joshua Parsons, Ruari Waiter, Phoebe White.

Congratulations also to our relay teams who achieved 2nd place - 15-16 girls freestyle, 12-14 boys freestyle, 12-14 boys medley, 12-19 boys super relay.
