Another successful Camp Day at Tim Hortons in Fernie
means two more kids will get to go to camp this sum-mer.
On Wednesday last week, all proceeds from coffee sales were collected as well as donations from customers to go towards the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation. More then $4,300 was raised in total, which is a record for the Fernie store.
“Despite the icky rain that drizzled down on us all day and actually forced us to pack up a couple of hours earlier than hoped, this year was a new rec-ord for us,” said Kristine Hovind-Pelletier, owner of the Fernie store. “Great job by staff, volunteers, and of course, our loyal custom-ers!”
Many people from the Fernie community also donated their time and lent a hand at the store for the day, making coffees, work-ing at the drive-thru win-dow and cleaning tables.
The money raised will be used to send two Elk Valley kids, aged between nine and 12, to camp for 10 days this summer.
“Each store is allocat-ed two kids each,” said Kristine. “We have an agency choose the kids based on necessity and various other things.
“Any extra money raised goes to the Children’s
Foundation to upkeep the many Tim Hortons camps across the country. Over 40,000 kids across the coun-try will go to camp this year.”
The foundation has six camps across Canada where kids, who could not otherwise afford it, get to go and try new activities and make new friends.
