    ARIZONA FALL LEAGUE

    The Arizona Fall League is set to begin its 21st season on Tuesday, October 8. Each AFL team iscomprised of 5 major league organizations working cooperatively. Each organization is required toassign six of their most promising Major League prospects to the league. The roster includes right-handed pitchers Dominic Leone, Brandon Maurer and Carson Smith, left-handed pitchersDanny Hultzen, infielders Patrick Kivlehan and Chris Taylor and outfielder Stefen Romero.Smitherwas on the also a member of the Peoria J avelinas in 2012.     WALKER NAMED PCL PITCHER OF THE WEEK: RHP Taijuan Walkerwas named the PacificCoast League Pitcher of the Week for August 19-25. Walker earned wins in each of his two startsover that stretch, limiting opponents to one run and striking out a combined 15 batters through 11.0innings of work. He held Colorado Springs scoreless on three hits and fanned six on August 20,and in his next outing, restricted Tucson to one run on six hits and struck out nine in a start on the

    road on August 25. A graduate of Yucaipa (CA) High School, Walker was selected by the SeattleMariners as the 43rd overall pick in the supplemental first round of the 2010 draft. He entered hisfourth professional season ranked by Baseball Prospectus as the No. 1 prospect in the Marinersfarm system, and was listed by Baseball America as the organizations No. 2 farmhand. Walker isnow the fifth different Rainiers player to garner a weekly league award and the fourth to nab Pitcherof the Week honors. Pitchers Andrew Carraway (April 22-29), J eremy Bonderman (April 29-May6)and J ames Paxton (J une 17-23), and infielder Nick Franklin (April 22-29) were each recognized forproducing outstanding weeks earlier this season.

    RECAP: 1B Steven Proscia hit 3 solo home runs as J ackson came-from-behind to defeat Chattanooga 7-3 on Monday night. Proscia(3x3, 3 R, 3 HR) recorded his 8th career multi-home run game and 2nd this season (last: 2, 6/23 vs. Mobile w/J ackson). It also marks his3rd career 3-home run game (also: 4/19/12 vs. Inland Empire and 7/14/12 vs. Stockton w/High Desert).     The VSL Mariners defeated the VSL Cubs 11-8 in 12 innings yesterday to win the 2013 VSL Championship 2-0. It was the VSL Marine2nd VSL Championship (also 2002). Team finished runner-up in the Championship game in 2012, 2010, 2008 and 2005.
