Reaching the SkyFounded in 1984 in Delft, Mecanoo architec-ten is a multidisciplinary team of professionals from 25 countries around the world whose work focusses on key aspects such as the process, consultation, context, urban scale, and the integrated strategies of sustainable design. Directed by Francine Houben (Sittard, 1955), the Dutch office manages a broad architectural repertoire, and tries to find specific solutions to address the needs of the program at hand, paying special attention to the conditions of the site and to the cultural and social environment of each one of their projects, always incorporat-ing issues like technological innovation, eco-engineering, and mobility.

MecanooFundado en 1984 en Delft, Mecanoo está for-mado por un equipo multidisciplinar de profe-sionales de 25 países cuyo trabajo está enfo-cado principalmente en el proceso, la consulta, el contexto, la escala urbana y las estrategias integradas de diseño sostenible. Dirigidos por Francine Houben (Sittard, 1955), los holan-deses poseen un registro arquitectónico muy variado, y tratan de hallar soluciones específi-cas para resolver las particularidades del pro-grama manteniendo especial atención tanto al lugar como al entorno cultural y social de cada uno de sus proyectos, en los que contemplan siempre cuestiones como la innovación tecno-lógica, la eco-ingeniería o la movilidad.

1,000 TreesJust twenty minutes from central Shanghai, by Suzhou River in a historic industrial area now transformed into a flourishing cultural and artistic hub, the new mixed-use complex 1,000 Trees takes inspiration from the moun-tainous landscape of the region and from the beauty of the waterfront and neighboring park, and unfurls topographically to occupy two sites, separated by a band of 300,000 square meters. Two tree-covered mountains of columns function as structure and merge with the surroundings, creating a smooth bor-der between the city and the building while minimizing the impact of its contact with the artistic district and the park.

Heatherwick en ShangháiA solo veinte minutos del centro de Shanghái, en la orilla del arroyo Suzhou en una histórica zona industrial reconvertida en un floreciente núcleo cultural y artístico, el nuevo complejo de usos mixtos 1.000 Trees está inspirado en el paisaje montañoso de la región y en la belleza del paseo marítimo y del parque vecino, y se desarrolla de manera topográfica para ocupar dos parcelas, separadas por una franja de 300.000 m² de extensión. Dos montañas pobla-das de columnas con árboles solucionan al mismo tiempo la estructura y la integración con el entorno, generando un borde diluido entre la ciudad y el edificio que minimiza el impacto de su encuentro con el distrito artístico y el parque.
