Route of Historic Villages

Made of granite or shale, they shield stories of wars, conquests and old traditions. They are located in the centre of the country and can be seen from far away because of the tall towers of their medieval castles. Nowadays they are peaceful and quiet, and their streets and houses still keep the most genuine of Portugal’s features: the authenti-city of its people and a 900 year old proud History. But it wasn’t always like this. Built on the top of mountains and hills, from their towers and walls watch was kept over the surrounding land. That is why they are so strategi-cally located along the border. Kings and landlords knew that this was the only way they could get some quiet rest. However, they were wrong! Moors, Christians, Castilians and Portuguese, they all tried to conquer these lands and that is why each one of these villages has some very ancient tale to tell. You will find many reasons to be conquered by our Historic Villages. And it won’t be just because of their heritage and history. Here, you will be able to enjoy some of Portugal’s most magnificent landscapes and feel surrounded by its natural warmth.

Volcano crater at Corvo Island Coastal Trail on Flores Flores Island Unesco heritage Whale watching In the Atlantic Ocean, in the western part of the Azores archipelago, about 1800km away from the New World, you’ll find the islands of Flores and Corvo. The last two islands to be discovered conceal a landscape of great beauty!AAccording to reports that date back a few centuries, the process of human settlement here was slow and difficult, particularly due to the volcanic erup-tions that took place over time. At the end of this journey, you’ll understand why and surely the Azores will never leave you again – for many reasons. For the wild and exuberant natural landscape; for the many shades of green peppered with moistness; and for the infinite ocean whose colours change as the clouds dictate. And, of course, for its people, who greet every traveller with a smile and naturally invite you to become a part of the family. This is the genuine Portugal and, despite the distance, it is very close to our hearts!

Think of a place further West, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, where nature and vegetation are virgin and wild.DDid you guess? It’s true: the Azores are all this, and a lot more. You’ll find nine places for adventure and nine wonderful surprises, with dolphins and whales swimming out in the ocean, completely unexpected landscapes of volcanic origin or covered in green, tufts of purple hydrangeas dividing pastures, blue and green lagoons, craters of extinct volcanoes and steamy soil. Have you ever seen your meal being cooked under the earth?NNature invites you to extraordinary adventures, mountaineering, watching the marine fauna and diving. And it also invites you to relaxation, hiking and contemplating the landscape. We want to introduce you with this pro-gramme to the island of S. Miguel.S. Madeira Crossing

The island of Madeira is what we can call a pure concentrate of beauty. Of natural beauty, of course. Walking along its trails and levadas (leds), crossing its centennial woods and forests, it takes us to truly idyllic scenarios. Many of its trails can be compared to those we see in other latitudes, such as the forests in Peru or the woods in New Zealand.WWe propose an integral crossing of the island, from the Lighthouse of Ponta do Pargo to the bridge in S. Lourenço, in 12 days of moderate hiking, always accompanied by a mountain guide.
