104/25/06 TRR Update
8-ID Recent Activity
• 8-ID General• New resident post-doc
– Martin Tolkiehn» Started 4/10/2006» Sharing office with Xuefa Li» X-Ray Standing Waves and
Wave-Guide experiments» Supporting some 8-ID-E and 8-
ID-”G” experiments
• Interesting experiments in recent weeks:
– 8-ID-E» Super-solid He» Cr CDW XPCS
204/25/06 TRR Update
304/25/06 TRR Update
– Plan to replace E monochromator exit window and crystal holder during shutdown
• Eliminate D-E air path• Allow eventual removal of 8-ID-A Be
window
– GISAXS vacuum-chamber-to-flight-path connections being modified to eliminate sample motion arising from bellows vacuum-loading
– E set-up (Si(220)---microdiffraction) will be enhanced:
• Channel-cut crystal to reduce harmonic contamination
• Simple fluorescence set-up (to minimize use of 1-BM)
• Microdiffraction and zone-plate-based XPCS
8-ID-E & G Recent and Upcoming Activities
404/25/06 TRR Update
– Installation and initial testing of the new pseudo channel-cut monochromator for 8-ID-I has been completed
• Team effort: Suresh (and Michael and Alec), deming Shu, Harold, AES-MOM, AES-MED, AES-SI and AES-BCDA
• Some scary moments over the past few weeks:
– Χ-motion yoke on 2nd crystal blocked line of sight to 1st crystal
– Partial vent after installation at the end of the beamline---thought we had broken a Be window; tested Jeff Alicz’s new procedure for suspect Be contamination clean-up
• Ge(111)-monochromatized beam was found only a few hours after first opening the shutter!!
8-ID-I Recent and Upcoming Activities
504/25/06 TRR Update
8-ID-I Recent and Upcoming Activities
– Piezo and picomotor fine pitch adjustment of Χ and θ of second crystal via flexure pivots
– UHV linear-stage-driven rotation of 2-crystal (Ge(111) assembly
– Ethernet and serial controls via EPICS 3.14
