Definitions

Emission: monitoring of emitted substances (gas, liquid or solid) at their source from an (industrial) process into the environment. • The monitoring of gas emissions are typically from (fossil fuel)

combustion processes such as power plants, waste incinerators and

automobiles.

Immission: monitoring of the effect of emitted pollutants (emissions) on the environment (plants, animals and humans) when they are present in the air, water or soil. • The monitoring of gas immission’s is typically done at strategic

locations within an urban/rural/industrial area or along major

roadways.
