FINISHING Cut batting and backing 3” larger than top on all sides. Layer backing, batting and top together and baste or pin. When quilting is completed, trim excess batting and backing. Bind as usual.

Block Assembly (Pay attention to the unit orientations when assembling the various components.)1. Place (1) D 6-7/8” square on top of (1) C 6-7/8” square, right sides together. Draw a line across the diagonal of the top square. Sew 1/4” away from each side of the drawn diagonal line. Cut the (2) squares apart on the drawn diagonal line to make (2) half-square triangles. Trim the half-square triangles to measure 6-1/2” square to make (2) Unit 1 squares. Repeat to make (4) Unit 1 squares total.

2. Place (1) C 6-1/2” square on the left side of (1) B 6-1/2” x 12-1/2” strip, right sides together. Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper right corner to the lower left corner. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a 1/4” seam allowance. Flip open the triangle formed and press.
3. Place another C 6 ½” square on the right side of the B 6 ½” x 12 ½” strip, right sides together. Sew across the diagonal of the square from the upper left corner to the lower right corner. Trim away the excess fabric from behind the triangle, leaving a ¼” seam allowance. Flip open the triangle formed and press to make (1) Unit 2 strip.
4. Repeat Steps 2-3 to make (4) Unit 2 strips total.

9. Repeat Step 1 and refer to the diagram for fabric identification, placement and seam allowance while using (8) F 3-7/8” squares and (8) C 3-7/8” squares to make (16) 3-1/2” Unit 4 squares.
10. Repeat Step 1 and refer to the diagram for fabric identification, placement and seam allowance while using (16) C 3-7/8” squares and (16) L 3-7/8” squares to make (32) 3-1/2” Unit 5 squares.
11. Repeat Steps 2-3 and Steps 5-6, refer to the diagram for fabric identification, placement and seam direction while using (16) C 3-1/2” x 6-1/2” strips, (32) F 3-1/2” squares and (32) E 3-1/2” squares to make (16) Unit 6 strips.
12. Repeat Steps 2-3 and Steps 5-6, refer to the diagram for fabric identification, placement and seam direction while using (32) H 3-1/2” x 6-1/2” strips, (64) C 3-1/2” squares and (64) G 3-1/2” squares to make (32) Unit 7 strips.
13. Sew (1) Unit 4 square to each end of (1) Unit 6 strip to make the top row. Repeat to make the bottom row. Sew (1) Unit 6 strip to each side of (1) D 6-1/2” square to make the middle row. Sew the (3) rows together to make (1) Block One square. Repeat to make (4) Block One squares total.
14. Repeat Step 13 and refer to the diagram for component identification, placement and orientation to make (8) Block Two squares.
