Thomas Kinrade graduated from Ballakermeen High School this year. He is intent on pursuing a ca-reer in Nursing, and has worked hard in moving to-wards this goal. In the early stages of his Sixth Form career, he chose to leave school and enter the work-place as he was uncertain about his future pathway. He returned to Ballakermeen later that year, ready to achieve with a completely new approach to his studies. Throughout his time in school, Thomas has been a stalwart member of the theatre’s backstage crew, the School Council, a member of our Sixth Form committee and has participated tirelessly in charity fundraising. Thomas has had to deal with a number of hurdles in recent years, but managed each one with resilience and positivity.
Thomas’s outfit is kindly provided by Burton’s Menswear, Strand Street, Douglas and his hair has been styled by Head Candy, Market Hill, Douglas.

Both Douglas High Schools nominated young people on the basis of the contribution they have made to their school and the community over the last year. The nomina-tions were then judged by his Worship the Mayor of Douglas Mr Councillor Stanley Cain, Council Leader Mr Councillor David Christian MBE JP and Chairman of the Regeneration and Community Committee Mr Councillor Stephen Pitts.

Douglas Carnival Queen
Ciara Sullivan has just completed her A levels at Ballakermeen High School. It has long been Ciara’s ambition to train to be a nurse, and she has been working with the children in the school’s Special Unit in order to gain experience. Ciara is highly thought of by all staff, but especially by the staff in the Special Unit, who have been really impressed by her happy disposition and sincere and earnest engagement with the children. She has given of her time unselfishly, and has shown herself to be caring, compassionate, empathetic and dedicated. She has had to negotiate a number of personal challenges throughout her time in school, but this has not prevented her from making a significant contribution to the positive ethos of the school. Her school are very proud of her.

The After Party
The fun of Douglas Carnival doesn’t end with the Parade. Once the floats have passed, the entertainment continues at the After Party.
You’ll find the After Party Stage and licensed beer garden in the Bottleneck Car Park near the Sea Terminal. As this is a licensed area you will need proof of age in order to gain a wristband to enter. Under 18s are permitted but will not be allowed to purchase or drink alcohol.
