Presidents Message

I hope you and your families are managing to cope with the recent escalation in restrictions. With move-ment now so limited, boredom and isolation are bound to be on the increase; can I suggest that during the course of the week, everyone in the Club picks up the phone and calls another member at random that they don't regularly talk to and ask how they are doing?

Our auction night was a great break from the routine, not only was it a lot of fun, we also raised $4,007, which we can use to help others through these difficult times. Many thanks for all the generous donations and bidding! A great team effort on the organising front but a particular call out to Megan for coming up with the idea and organisation to make it happen!

Last year, the Club successfully sponsored Beaumaris local Rani Kulkarni to a substantial Rotary award to-wards her education in New York. A catch up on her progress is the focus of our meeting this week. Look forward to seeing you then.

Yours in Rotary

Adrian

A Thought: Courtesy of Richard Potter "Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet. "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do." "That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right."

Auction Extravaganza

A special thankyou to all Members that participated and bid, and the Members that produced an amazing variety of goods for sale.

Special thanks go to Greg our Auctioneer, who did a fabu-lous job, and his scribe Kathy.

To David Lea, for our "Sotheby's” Auction catalogue, which worked a treat.

To Simon, who entertained and chaired our night.

To Alison and Kieron for providing trivia quizzes for the night, which unfortunately due to Zoom issues we were not able to enjoy.

However, they will definitely be testing our brains at a fu-ture event.

The result raised was $4,007.

Absolutely fabulous outcome.

Special mentions to Honorary Member Malcolm Parkes who generously offered one weeks holiday at his Byron Bay property, which went to Geoff Stockdale for $760.

This is the third time he has done this. Once before during the bushfires. And once at a Rotary Fundraiser at San-dringham Yacht Club. A true Rotarian. Many thanks Malcolm.

To Gail and Tim. Their Fathers Day Gift Hamper, includ-ing two members tickets to the Melbourne Cup was sold for $560.

To Di Hone whose two paintings raised $330

And to all the other contributors who searched their home for goods and items for sale.

A list will be sent out next week of who purchased what and for what amount.

Your goods will be delivered by the seller to your front door, if local.

If you know (remember) the amount and what you pur-chased, money to be put into Rotary Bank Account next week.

Many thanks once again to all Members and Partners for their contributions.

Megan

ClubRunner Workshop

Monday 24th August 2020 @ 7pm

Peter Dalmore (District Tech Committee) will con-duct a run through of the attributes of ClubRunner and be available to an-swer any questions you may have.

With no District Directory published this year (and probably never again), it’s really important for all Rotarians to know how to access the information that used to be provided in hard copy.

This Club Runner session is to assist all Rotarians to understand how to access the information they need through the District website and through the smart phone app.

Find out the quick and easy way to find infor-mation about District clubs, Club office bearers and individual Rotarians using the online tools available through the District.

Registration details on email dated 7 August.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Social Media Workshop

Monday 31st August 2020 @ 7pm

Facebook looking faded? Website got whiskers? Time to update and put up the club image that will work. Online presence is important and many clubs report new member enquiries from website and social media activities.

In this current pandemic Social Media is the pre-mium source of contact for your Rotary Clubs, fel-low Rotarians, family and friends. Please take ad-vantage to hone your skills and improve your So-cial Media knowledge. This workshop presenta-tion and Q & A session will be conducted by our

resident Social Media guru Rotaractor PDRR Netania Lim.

This workshop will help clubs make the most of an online presence and help to show the world op-portunities available through Rotary.

Registration details on email dated 7 August.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Thank you for your support of MITS and our students so far in 2020. Through your generosity – your donations, your volunteer hours, your sponsorships and your advo-cacy for our school – our students have excelled as they have taken on the challenge of pursuing a great educa-tion. Of course, 2020 has presented us all with immense challenges far beyond the norm. For our students – who have chosen to pursue education away from home – those challenges have been particularly pronounced. In response to all that has occurred in 2020, our students and staff have demonstrated resilience and agility that are hallmarks of MITS. During late Term One and throughout Term Two we ran a highly effective remote learning pro-gram which kept students engaged in their learning and continuing to grow academically and personally. In Term Three we have made the decision to move our operations to a Darwin Hub. This significant move will allow both our Year 7 and alumni students to recommence in-person learning, to reconnect with their peers and to benefit from

the rich extracurricular program that MITS provides. With each new challenge that arises we remain steadfast in putting our students at the centre of our decision making. Our temporary Darwin Hub is evidence of this. To enable us to maintain this commitment to our students, we are reliant on you – our supporters – to ensure that we have the resources and funds necessary to make bold, high-impact changes. Thank you for continuing your commit-ment to MITS and our students. Your support has never been more important than it is right now. Through your generosity, you are creating bright futures for our students and for our nation. We are excited to share updates from our Darwin Hub with you over the coming weeks and months.

Edward Tudor

Executive Director

NATURE'S TOWERS

Basalt formations stand over the Sound of Raasay on Scot-land's Isle of Skye. The pinnacles are the result of an ancient landslide that created the dramatic land-scape you see now.
