Section 1.9 Assess Computer Skills Survey This survey helps identify the skills needed to plan for implementing an electronic health record (EHR), health information exchange (HIE), and other health information technology (HIT). Time needed: 15 minutes to complete survey, 2 hours to assess results Suggested other tools: NA How to Use Copy the tool supplied below and distribute as a paper document. (Staff members who need computer basics will often not have access to email or will rarely check email.) Internet (e.g., access Web sites, save favorites, use a search engine, access medical bibliographic references, subscribe/unsubscribe to lists)

Basic training for keyboarding skills

Note: EHR and HIE systems should be designed so that users are not required to make extensive use of typing. However, basic familiarity with the keyboard (e.g., knowing where the arrow keys are located or the function of the enter key) are important.
