This year’s Welding workshop is very much open to answering your ques-

tions on a wide variety of welding topics and to providing a platform to help

you gain knowledge in areas that might not be a focal point within your own

organization. As an appetizer we would like to start with a discussion on the welding of

Duplex Stainless Steels. Quite often we hear that welding these alloys and,

in particular, lean duplex stainless steels is hard to accomplish. Therefore,

as part of this workshop we would like to show you that it is not so difficult

if you understand the starting conditions of duplex stainless steels and also

the cooling speed of this dual phase material. We look forward to discussing

these aspects with you as well as a multitude of other welding issues. So

please bring along your queries, challenges, and difficulties to the floor and

profit from this opportunity to learn and share knowledge and information. To-

gether with Sandra le Manchet from Industeel Creusot CRMC and Rob Spelt

from Spelt Engineering Company we will form a panel to lead this discuss. Jan

Jonsson from Outokumpu will contribute to the discussion on Quality Control

aspects of duplex stainless steels using the ferrite scope.

Increasingly, additive manufacturing is becoming an integral part of the production process of demanding applications whether this be in the aerospace, oil & gas,

automotive, chemical, or biomedical industries. In the workshop we will look at some of the state-of-the-art solutions that are currently taking place in the additive

manufacturing industry for metals. Why are these pro-

cesses being developed and what are their advantag-es/disadvantages? We will also look at where there are

opportunities at present, why these have occurred, and

how some solutions might possibly find their way into

transforming your business for the future. Additionally,

the move to increase standardization, guidelines, and

auditing to guarantee quality within 3D printing will be

examined.

Just mention the name Brian Farley to a baseball fan and his or her eyes are sure to light up with recognition and admiration. After all, as the national coach Mr. Farley led the Dutch baseball team to victory in the World Championship in 2011, the first time a European team had ever lifted this prestigious trophy. For his extraordinary achievements as a coach Farley received a knighthood and was voted Coach of the Year at the 2011-2012 sports gala: he has also participated in the Olympics in both

Sydney and Beijing.

Mr. Farley is known as a passionate speaker with a determination to achieve results. The organisers

of SSW 2019 are therefore

delighted to announce that Mr.

Farley will be delivering a plenary lecture at the conference, in which he will reveal the principles that he used to turn the Dutch baseball team into champions. Says Mr. Farley: ”I have always been intrigued about behaviour, why does one person persevere in the face of adversity and another disengage and quit? These principles are what I want to discuss with you, and how they can make a difference, not just to baseball players and people on the field but for people in the business world.”

Forum Discussion New Alloy Developments

Moderated by the conference chairman, Lars Rose, Dupont, Germany, a group of expert panelists will be discussing the challenges and opportunities associated with new alloy developments. Questions and observations will also be encouraged from the floor.

This topic is certain to appeal to all in the supply chain and especially to end users. After all, in order to improve process safety and plant performance, end users ought to improve alloy selection and move towards new developments in the market. On the other hand, exact process conditions in the plant may never have been tested before, and unexpected failure behaviours may occur. Therefore end users need to balance these topics and find their own optimal path forwards. During this panel session, the entire supply chain is invited to join in a discussion on how these developments can be improved so as to positively impact all businesses and generate value for all.

Often, alloys such as C-22 or even C-276 are seen in plants as new since they are only slowly adapted, but such alloys have been on the market for many decades now and better performing alloys have already been developed. The Forum will explore which other types of alloys have either had a palpable impact on the market, or faced some opposition despite having superior corrosion resistance.

Heat Exchanger Workshop

Heat Exchangers are an integral and everyday part of a multitude of our process industries from space heating, refrigeration, air conditioning, power stations, chemical & petrochemical plants, refineries, natural-gas, processing, and sewage treatment. As with all industrial products they are continually under development as end-user needs evolve. This workshop will provide a discussion of some of the present-day issues and offer some solutions and food for thought.
