A Timeline of Videogames

Who doesn’t love video games?! We all know we like them, but where did they come from? When did they start?

The first video game is said to be invented by a German-born television engineer by the name of Ralph Baer and his team. They created the first video game known as the “brown box” in 1967. The game consisted of two squares that chase each other on the screen. In addition, to “brown box”, twelve other games are made.

In 1972, the earliest arcade game, “pong”, became a huge success along with the Magnavox Odyssey game console. The Magnavox Odyssey was the first home video game system and sold more than 330,000 units.

In 1974, the first shooter game is released, called “Maze Wars.” In 1976, Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak created “Breakout”, known today as “Brick Breaker”.

After the first generation of video games, games started becoming more profound and impressive. Many titles we know today come straight from the second generation of video games. Titles such as “Pac-man”, “Donkey Kong”, and “Frogger” are released. The Atari 2600 is released in 1977 and was the most successful video game of its time.

The third generation was mainly dominated by Nintendo when they released the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1983. Games such as “Tetris” and “Balloon Fight” become a huge success in 1984. In 1985, “Super Mario Bros.” is released for the NES. The game was so successful, ten-million copies were sold in the first year alone, and continued to be the top selling video game until 2008 with 40 million copies sold.

After the 3rd generation of video games, the main rival to Nintendo, Sega, competed for the top spot in videogames. Sega releases the Sega Genesis in 1988. One of the most successful games of all time, Sonic the Hedgehog is released in 1991 and continues to gain fame and popularity today.

The 4th generation of games transformed the way we see video games. In 1994, Sony releases the Playstation and games such as “Crash Bandicoot” and “ Spyro the Dragon” to the public. Nintendo releases the Nintendo 64 in 1996 with games such as “Super Mario 64” and “Zelda: The Ocarina of Time”. Also, in this generation of games, the handheld was made popular by Nintendo when the Nintendo Color was released in 1998.

The 5th generation of games triggered a three-way battle between three companies: Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo for the best games. The Playstation II is released along with the Xbox and GameCube.

The 6th generation, and last generation, of video games so far had consoles that we use today. The Xbox 360 is released in 2005 and the Playstation III and Wii are released in 2006. Ever since then, America has been choosing sides between three great consoles.

Video games have evolved a lot through history into games that we enjoy today and I hope that the games continue to improve.

There are a lot of incredible places around the world but one is the Rainforest. It only covers 6% of the Earth’s surface. The Rainforest holds over half of the planets animal and plant species! The Rainforest is a tall, dense jungle, has a high amount of rain fall each yeah. The climate is hot and humid. There are a lot of foods we eat form the rainforest and a lot of the ingredients are in our medicines. We over look the humans who live here, there is over 50,000 tribal people. They depend on the rainforest for food and shelter, we cut the trees down but we are killing them. There are 2 kinds of these forests Temperate and Tropical. Rainforests are ground on every continent on this planet except Antarctica. Tropical rainforests are found near the equator and the Temperate rainforests are found along the coasts in the temperate zone. The animals that live here are fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds. There are four levels of the rainforest the Forest floor, Understory, Canopy, and the Emergents. Some of the trees here are taller than the Canopy. Poison arrow frogs live in the rainforest, Indians apply the poison from the frog to the tips of their hunting arrows and blow-gun darts. There is a lot of Scorpions are arachnids that are found worldwide. If we keep destroying the trees in the rainforests we will kill the animals, plants, and the humans that live in these dense jungles. Some geckos live in rainforest, they are the only lizards to make noise. Gorillas are in danger of extinction. There are a lot of different species of fish that swim in the Amazon rivers . Electric Eels swim in the basin of South American, they are a type of fish that can generate electricity. They are 2,500 types of lizards, many of them live in rainforests. Komodo dragons are the biggest lizards in the world, they are a fierce predator. They will even eat there own young. Snakes scales are made up of the same stuff are fingernails are made up of. Some islands don’t have snakes at all. Snakes can dislocate there jaw to swallow there prey. Even if they dislocate their jaw while swallowing the prey they can still breathe. Snakes fangs are long and very sharp the venom of some snakes can kill you in minutes and seconds.

One thing USC is known for is its famous rivalry with Clemson University’s football team, only 125 miles away. It started way back for reasons such as historical tensions regarding their locations and passions surrounding their sports programs. Carolina also has a rivalry with Georgia State University. USC’s football team has won more than twenty championships. More than thirty of the team’s players went on to become successful NFL players.

USC is excellent in test scores: including the SAT and ACT tests. USC achieved exemplary SAT scores. USC achieved 530/630 in critical reading and 560/650 in math. For ACT scores: the ACT composite score was 24/29, ACT English was 22/30, and math was 24/27.

Dinosaurs lived around the Mesozoic Era, which began two hundred forty-five years ago. Sharks have been here two hundred years before the dinosaurs! They have evolved a lot since the first shark. Sharks can smell a drop of blood over three miles away, can hear from thousands of feet away and know exactly where the sound is coming from. There are only three hundred fifty different kinds of sharks. There is only twenty-five sharks known to attack people, we kill thousands of sharks every year and they kill only about six people a year. We kill them for food, oils, skins, and even just for sport. Sharks cannot get cancer, the scientists that study sharks have detected the source for their aptitude to remain cancer free! Sharks don’t sleep if they do they do they will sink because they will become denser and then they die. When sharks go to attack an animal or human they use their eyelid like a shield to protect their eyes when they come close to an object or feeding. If a shark feels threatened or feels like 10

it needs to defend itself it will, don’t touch a shark or make eye contact it’s rude. The shark is not a bloody blood thirsty animal like people make them out to be

they are defending their self because they feel threatened or you’re invading their territory! There are only about one hundred shark attacks each year, and only ten of those attacks are deadly! There are only forty three shark species

that can live in both fresh and seawater. If sharks bite into something they don’t like they spew it out of their mouths. The methods of catching there prey and

the prey itself differ greatly among the different types of sharks. Majority of sharks are cold-blooded but very few are hot-blooded! Majority of sharks

swallow their food whole or bite it into large enough pieces. Sharks are very sensitive, the bull sharks throws up its stomach to get rid of its food. Sharks

attack humans because they get the identity wrong they think we are seal or an animal like that. Sharks are made up of cartilage because it gives them a great

flexibility and allows them to go up and down quickly. It’s not common for a shark to jump out of the water but some sharks do, like the great white shark.
