England Education Headlines
• Full Time Education is compulsory from the age of 4 to 16 years in the England (part time from age of 3)
• Split into two main areas:– Primary (4yrs to 10yrs); and– Secondary (11yrs to 16yrs).
• Further education is split into two forms of delivery:– 6th form (17yrs to 18yrs); and– College .

England Education Headlines• New form of education is emerging in England to meet the needs
of employers – University Technical Colleges.
• University Technical Colleges are a new concept in education. They offer 14-18 year olds the opportunity to take a highly regarded, full time, technically-oriented course of study.
• UTCs specialise in subjects that require technical and modern equipment, for example, engineering, product design, health sciences, construction, and land and environmental services.

Education Governance in England
• Ofsted is the Office for Standards in Education, Children’s Services and Skills. They report directly to England Government and are independent and impartial.
• They inspect and regulate services which care for children and young people, and those providing education and skills for learners of all ages.– All results are public documents and can be found of the

Vocational Guidance in England
• In the England this is called ‘Information, Advice and Guidance’
• This area is regulated by OFSTED and schools etc are now judged on how they advise young people. For example:“how well leaders and managers ensure that the curriculum provides timely independent information, advice and guidance to assist pupils on their next steps in training, education or employment”
The Careers Service is now privatised in England

• We have created an approach to IAG which is people focused.
• VIP Programme is for:– Long term unemployed people– Low / no skills– Real work programme– Education and training – Employment opportunities

VIP Programme• Developed to support the most vulnerable people in our
community to lift them and their families out of poverty through education and work.
• Participants include:– Lone parents– Physical or mental health issues– English not their first language e.g. refugees or asylum
seekers– Involved in the criminal justice system– Substance abuse issues– Young parents– Subject to domestic abuse / violence

How did we create new jobs?
• Engaged Employers to support long term unemployed people;• Recruited students;• 10 week volunteer programme (unpaid);
– Training;– Work ethos; and– IAG.
• 6 months paid employment;– Work experience;– Education and training; – On the job IAG; and– Jobs.
• 85% of people on this programme got a full time job.
