Ten Steps Approach to Solve Numerical
Step–1. Read the problem with cool head at least twice (even the most easy-one) or till you are not
confident to understand it. Step –2. Analyze it mentally – means, what are the given data, their units – unit conversions,
conversion of English text to the language of physics, what to calculate, how many direct or indirect
formula(s) for the solution you know etc.
Step –3. Write all data neatly with their units (Don’t solve) and simultaneously their unit conversions (always MKS unit).
Step-4 Represent the problem pictorially.
Step –5. Write what you have to calculate. Step –6. Pause.
Step –7. Now think of the physics relation which correlate the given data with the unknown directly
or indirectly. Step –8. If something is missing in the direct formula then that has to be calculated (Don’t solve)
from the given data (Repeat step-6).
Step –9. Put the values and write the unit of the final expression.
Step –10. Solve the numerical values and write the unit of the final expression.
