This brochure lists the major buildings in Fort Worth within each area of the city. Their names, addresses, the year they were built will be listed. Fort Worth is the 16th-largest city in the United States of America and the fifth-largest city in the state of Texas. Located in North Central Texas, just southeast of the Texas Panhandle, the city is a cultural gateway into the American West and cov-ers nearly 300 square miles (780 km2) in Tarrant, Denton, and Wise counties, serving as the seat for Tarrant County. According to the 2010 Cen-sus, Fort Worth had a popu-lation of 741,206. It has been estimated that by 2030 it will have 1,211,665 residents. The city is the second most popu-lous in the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The city was estab-lished in 1849 as an Army out
post on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River. Today Fort Worth still embraces its West-ern heritage and traditional architecture and design. USS Fort Worth (LCS-3) is the first ship of the United States Navy named after the city. Fort Worth has pre-served many of its downtown buildings constructed be-tween 1880 and 1930. Class “A” Downtown office occu-pancy rates are about 98%. The best way to view these buildings throughout the city is by car; however, the best way to see downtown is on foot. Most of the structures in downtown are in close proximity to each other; how-ever, some are on the fringes of downtown and can be seen by automobile. Downtown Fort Worth can be accessed by the Trinity Railway Express (TRE) and is navigable by bus if you arrive via the TRE.
