Who's Who in the Cast . . . DOLORES WILSON (Sonia) has had

many attributes accorded her by some of the foremost critics of Italy. France, Spain, Portu- gal and Germany--critics like Andrea della Corte, G!useppe Pu !iese, Guido Pannain, Clave, etc., saylng thmgs %ke "Sensational revelation" -"Stupendous"-"Complete virtuosity"-"Flair, youth ele ance and beautyw-"Exceptional tech- nique''-"610fious singingu-"One of the best coloraturas In the world todayp'-"Unending breath-control" - "Crystal-clear voice" - "Rich timbre, extrordinary agility, limpid high tones" -"A true diva." In being thus acclaimed Miss Wilson established a precedent, because she was considered a top coloratura in Europe before ever singing in her native Arne-ica. I t was a foregone conclusion that a singer with such successee on foreign soil should be invited to join the elite roster of the Metropoliia~i Opera. When Dolores Wilson made her debut . there in the Spring of 1954 in the title role of LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, the success story was repeated. The public responded with an ovation, especially after the notoriously diiiicult Mrd Scene, while the New York critics went all out in their praise. "Dolores Wilson Scores As Lucia" was the headline in the New York Times by Howard Taubman. And when she followed her Lucia with a Rosina in "THE BARBER OE' SEVILLE". a few days latbr, the New York Herald Tr~bune wrote: "Miss Wilson 1s a coloratura with a nightingale's voice a t the top of her range 2nd considerable suppleness through- our its span . . . She is graced with the ability to skip about the tor, of the staff with M strain. remarkable acccuraiy and a liberal supply of vivid colors . . ." Following her much talked- about debut a t the Met Miss Wilson was im- mediately in demand in bther parts of this hcmi- sphere--concert and opera performances in Puerto Rico, Cincinnati, New Orleans, Miami. Philadel- phia, (her home town, where she was honored with Dolores Wilson Day), and in many other music centers. The most dramatic moment in.the life of the youthful soprano came when she assumed the role of Susanna in "THE MAR- RIAGE O F FIGARO" a t the Metropolitan on three hours notlce, w~thout ever having sung the role on any sta e previously. Her performance was so amazingfy projected that the New York Times wrote: ''It requires nerve to undertake such a big and difficult role for the first time at so short notice, and allowances could have been made for that f a c t But no allowances needed to be made. Miss Wilson sang as if it were her hundred-and-first Susanna rather than her first. She played Susanna with the greatest assurance and her characterization was a con- vincing and appealing one. The part lies well for her voice and she sang it with great effect. Her performance as a whole had such ease and polish that i t is probable few in last night's audience guessed the hectic circumstances of that performance." Miss Wilson has won ac- claim on T H E VOICE O F FIRESTONE and THE ED SULLIVAN SHOW on T V and re- ceotly bas been appearing a t a leading night club in Bermuda.

JEFF WARREN (Danilo) directed all the product~ons at the Grand last summer and IS workin in the same capacity this season. Mr. g a r r e n got his first theatre job as tenor soloist with the touring company of Kurt Weill's LADY IN T H E DARK which starred Gertrude Lawrence. A month afjer the opening of Kurt Weill's next Broadway success, ONE TOUCH O F VENUS he had the opportunity that a l l understudies hream of-he went on during Kenny Bake-'s extended illness to play opposite Mary Martin. The result of this was a new part in the Jackie Gleason show, FOLLOW T H E GIRLS and a short excursion with HOLLY- WOOD PINAFORE which starred Shirley Booth Victor Moore and Annamary Dickey. The followine autumn, Mr. Warren appeared in Lerner and oewe's first New York success T H E DAY BEFORE SPRING and a year late; in their second, BRIGADOON. I t was while he was engaged with GENTLEMEN PREFER BLONDES that Mr. Warren was offered the op- portunity of appearing opposlte Ethel Merman in CALL ME MADAM for three months while Russell Nype went to Hollywood. He was then engaged to create the same role in the London production of CALL M E MADAM and remained in England to play leading roles in WEDDING I N PARIS. While in England he also had the honor of appearing in the first Royal Command Performance for Queen Elizabeth 11, as Cell a s on many television and radio programs, concerts and night clubs. This past wlnter Jeff was as- sociated with the Carol Channing ;evue, SHOW GIRL.

JOANNE KOEHN (Natalie) decided a t a very early age that what she wanted to do most was sing for her supper. Her opportunity came as a result of her studies at the University of Texas where she majored in music and voice and studied with Josephine Antoine of the Metropolitan Opera. After appearances with the Opera Workshop, Miss Koehn moved to Mil- waukee where she played a variety of roles, in- cluding the title role in LAURA. Bianca in KISS ME, .KATE, Fiona in BRIGADOON s t the Fred M~l le r Theatre for an extended enga e ment and Laurey in the Playhouse Under 3%; Stars production of OKLAHOMA] Raves frdm the critics urged Miss Koehn on to a---I; tense interest in the theatre and extensive studies
