Dr. Luigi™ is a puzzle game in which you take onthe role of Luigi™ and eliminate viruses usingcapsules. There are three modes to choose from:Retro Remedy, Operation L, and Virus Buster. Youcan also participate in online battles and trackyour high scores compared to those of playersfrom all over the world via Nintendo Network.

At the title screen, tap the touch screen of the WiiU GamePad or press to display the mode-selection screen. From there, use to select, to confirm, and to cancel as you navigatethrough the various menus.◆ In Virus Buster mode, menu controls can be
performed using the touch screen.
❶ Select a Game Mode
To begin a game, first select the game mode youwant to play.
In these modes, you use button controls tomaneuver capsules with the goal of eliminating allof the viruses inside the bottle. Retro Remedyuses basic capsules, while Operation L uses L-shaped capsules ("L-capsules"). These modessupport both single-player games using the Wii UGamePad, and two-player games using the Wii UGamePad and an additional compatible controller

Retro Remedy / Operation L
In this mode, you use touch controls to maneuvercapsules with the goal of eliminating all of theviruses inside the bottle. This mode supportssingle-player games using the Wii U GamePad.
Virus Buster
Select this option if you want to compete againstfriends and fellow players from around the worldvia Nintendo Network. You can engage in both

Once a mode has been selected, a menu willappear that allows you to set the number ofplayers. This menu also presents two otheroptions, which give you the opportunity to viewyour records and adjust various options beforeyou select a number of players and proceed tothe next screen.

Classic(one or twoplayers)
Clear all viruses in a stageto move on. Each time youclear a stage, you will moveon to another, more difficultstage. When playing a two-player game, you can wineither by clearing all of yourviruses first or by holdingout unti l your opponentloses.
Vs. CPU(one player)
Win either by clearing all ofyour viruses f i rst or byholding out until the CPUloses.
Flash(one or twoplayers)
Win either by clearing all ofyour flashing viruses first orby holding out until youropponent loses.
❸ Select a Game Type
Once a game mode has been selected and thenumber of players determined, choose which ofthe following game types you want to play.
❹ Adjust Final Settings
At the final screen that is displayed before yourgame begins, you can adjust the difficulty and setthe music.
◆ The option to select a game type is notavailable in Virus Buster.
You can use this setting to adjust the speed atwhich capsules fall.◆ For Virus Buster games, a speed is selected by
choosing between three difficulty options.
Speed
You can use this setting to adjust how full thebottle is at the start of the game. Moving thecursor to the right increases the initial number ofviruses in the bottle.◆ For Flash games, you have just three level
settings to choose from.

You can use th is sett ing to change thebackground music or turn the background musicoff entirely.

Saving Data
Game progress is saved automatically whenever astage is cleared or a battle ends.
Erasing Data
To erase data, go to Data Management in (System Settings) on the Wii U Menu and thenfollow the instructions that appear on the screen.

Retro Remedy, Operation L, and Virus Buster allshare the same basic rules and objective: As thecapsules enter the bottle and fall, line them upwith like-colored viruses in order to exterminatethem. Once all viruses have been removed fromthe bottle, the current stage is cleared.
Eliminating Viruses
Move and rotate the capsules as they fall so thatthey come to rest next to, on top of, or just belowviruses of the same color. When you vertically orhorizontally align four or more pieces of the samecolor (capsule pieces and/or virus pieces), theywill form a set and all disappear.

Techniques
You can eliminate many viruses simultaneously byusing techniques called chains and combos.During two-player battles, getting chains andcombos will send garbage to your opponent's
bottle.◆ During Operation L two-player matches, pay
special attention to which colors it will be mostdifficult for your opponent to place.
When sets of viruses and capsules disappear, anyremaining capsule pieces will drop, potentiallycausing other like-colored capsules and viruses toline up, form sets, and disappear as well. Clearingsets one after the other like this is called a chain.

Virus Buster Techniques
After clearing a set inVirus Buster, you canmove any fallingcapsule pieces thatremain in the same waythat you move whole capsules.
If you drag a capsule or capsule piece veryquickly during a Virus Buster game, you canslide it through viruses and other capsules.This technique makes it possible to fill inopen spaces that otherwise seemunreachable.

Retro Remedy andOperation L can be playedas two-player battles eitherlocally or via NintendoNetwork.
Local Battles
You can engage in two-player battles duringwhich two players compete side by side on asingle console. The battle starts when Player 1selects the music. After the battle is finished,Player 1 can select Try Again or Quit.
Online Battles via Nintendo Network
To initiate an online battle or check online recordsand rankings, select Online Battle at the mode-selection screen. The following options will thenbe displayed.
◆ Before battling a friend online via NintendoNetwork, confirm that you have registered thatplayer to your friend list.
Worldwide
Choose this option toconnect to the Internet andfind an opponent whoserating is close to your own.
Host a FriendChoose this option to hosta game that a friend fromyour friend list can join.
Join a Friend
Choose this option to join agame hosted by a friendfrom your friend list. Whenyou select this option, a listof available games will bedisplayed. Select the oneyou want to join.
PlayerRankings
Choose this option to viewrankings based onWorldwide-battle results.
● WorldwideOnce a game mode is selected, you will bematched with someone whose rating is close toyour own, and then the battle will begin.◆ You start with a default rating of 5,000. If no
opponent with a rating close to yours isavailable, you may be matched with anopponent whose rating is further from yourown.
● Host a FriendOnce a game mode is selected, your ID isdisplayed to your friends when they select Join aFriend. When a friend joins your game, you will betaken to a screen where you can adjust difficultysettings and select the music. The battle willbegin when both players have selected music orwhen the timer reaches zero (whichever comesfirst).● Join a FriendSelect this option to enter a lobby where you cansee available games being hosted by your friends.When a friend elects to host a game and selects agame mode, his or her ID will be displayed in thelobby for you to see. Once you join a friend'sgame, you will be taken to a screen where youcan adjust difficulty settings and select the music.The battle will begin when both players haveselected music or when the timer reaches zero(whichever comes first).
