2 Getting Started
Play the game from the beginning.Enter a name for the save file andstart the story.
◆ You will not be able to changethe name of the save file later.
New Game
Select a save file to continueplaying from where you last saved(p. 3).

View artwork, listen to voicerecordings and music and watchmovies which appear in the maingame.
Bonuses (p. 18)
The Main Menu will bedisplayed after youlaunch the game.

Connect to the internet to unlockbonus episodes and artwork.
Extra Content (p. 19)
This software does not supportSleep Mode while connected tothe internet, even when theNintendo 3DS system is closed.
3 Saving and Quitting
When quitting the game, be sure tosave your current progressbeforehand. Once the game hasfinished saving, you can then turnoff your Nintendo 3DS system.
To save your current progress,select SAVE from the Trunk Menu(p. 12) then select a save file. Youwill also have the opportunity tosave your game at major storyevents.
Saving Data
◆ You can create up to three savefiles.
● Do not turn the power off, resetthe system or remove GameCards/SD Cards while saving.Make sure not to get dirt in theterminals. These actions couldresult in permanent data loss.
● Do not use external accessoriesor software to modify your savedata, as this can lead to aninability to progress or loss ofsave data. Any modification ispermanent, so be careful.
4 Basic Play
This game is divided into two mainparts: Adventure and Trials. You willswitch between the two parts as thegame progresses. The gameplaydiffers for each part, so be sure totake note of how each proceeds.
Trials (p. 14-17)
Take to the courtroom as anattorney to help clear thedefendant's name! Hear testimoniesand cross-examine witnesses in anattempt to uncover the truth.
Adventure (p. 8-10)
Adventure is split into two modes:Movement Mode and InvestigationMode. Pay visits to areas of interestwith Movement Mode, and useInvestigation Mode to gatherinformation by examining objectsand hearing out what people have tosay. You will also be challenged withpuzzles from time to time.

8 Movement Mode
Location Name
The name of the selected location.Information about that location isdisplayed at the bottom of thescreen.
Current Location
Hidden Puzzles / Hint Coins
Information on puzzles and hintcoins (p. 9) you can find in thatlocation. The numbers displayedindicate the number you have found,and the total number in thatlocation.
Red Marker
This mode allows you to movearound from place to place. Touch ared marker to move to that location.

Investigating an Area
In Movement Mode, touch toswitch to Investigation Mode, andget ready to start investigating.
Slide the stylus or your finger on theSearch Panel to move themagnifying glass on the upperscreen. If the magnifying glasspasses over a point of interest it willreact in a certain way.
Investigate a point where themagnifying glass has turned blue tozoom in and view areas which werepreviously hidden or out of view. Toreturn to the previous area, simplytouch BACK.
Zoom In
Talk Sometimes themagnifying glasswill turn orangewhen it passesover a character inthe game. Whenthis happens, youwill be able to talkto them by pressing or by tapping the Touch Screen.Use the same controls to advancethe text. Even if you've alreadytalked to someone, they may saysomething different the next timeyou speak with them.
Entering BuildingsWhen themagnifying glassturns into a yellowarrow, investigatethat point andyou'll be able to enter a building orroom to continue your investigation.
Hidden Objects Around TownThere are variousobjects, such ashint coins andpuzzles, hidden ineach location. Besure to search every nook andcranny!
You will need hint coins to viewhints when you're solvingpuzzles and during trials.
About Hint Coins
When talking tosomeone, you maybe presented withsome options.Touch one of theoptions to select it and continuewith the story.
Dialogue Options
10 Solving Puzzles
When you find a hidden puzzle, ortalk to someone who presents youwith a puzzle, the introductoryscreen will be displayed. Touch theTouch Screen to advance to thePuzzle screen.
Picarat Value
The number of picarats you willreceive if you solve the puzzle.Picarats are points that indicate apuzzle's difficulty.
Total Score
The total number of picarats youhave earned so far.

Spend hint coins toview hints. There arefour hints per puzzle.The first three will costyou one hint coin each.The Super Hint(S. Hint), however, willcost you two hint coins.
Quit the current puzzleand leave it for later.

14 Advancing in Trials
1. Witness TestimonyYou will hear atestimony from awitness stating thecircumstances atthe time the eventsoccurred, and what was witnessedthen. Touch the Touch Screen orpress to advance the text.
2. Cross-ExaminationThere's apossibil ity that thewitness's testimonyincorporates someinconsistencies,contradictions or errors. Touch
to press the witness for moredetails on the testimony. You mayeven acquire a new testimony oradditional evidence.
3. Present
Court Proceedings
Your objective in a trial is tosuccessfully plead for the defendantand win with a Not Guilty verdict.Make use of information andevidence you have gathered touncover the truth behind the events.
If you find aninconsistency betweenthe witness'stestimony and what'swritten in the CourtRecord (p. 16) or the GrandGrimoire (p. 17), touch topresent the evidence. If thepresented evidence is relevant, thedefence will gain some ground andyou'll be one step closer to havingthe defendant acquitted.

Main Causes for LosingCredibility:
The icons in thetop-right corner ofthe upper screenrepresent thedefence'sCredibility. Make a mistake and thenumber of icons (e.g. ) maydecrease. If you run out of icons theverdict will be Guilty and it will begame over!In the case of a Not Guilty verdict,when the trial has ended, you willreceive the equivalent amount ofpicarats for your remainingCredibility icons.
When It's Game Over...Select one of the following options:
Restart trial Replay the same trial.
Load savedata
Select a save file andload save data.
Return to theTitle Screen
Quit and return to theTitle Screen.
15 Commands
Touch toexplore thetestimony further,part by part. As youpress the witness,the testimony mayeven changeslightly. There's nolimit to the numberof times you can use this command,so be persistent with it!
Question
Depending on thetrial, multiplewitnesses may taketo the stand at thesame time. Whileone is making a testimony, theothers will remain silent, so if youwish to hear from them you willneed to select QUESTION. To dothis, follow the subsequent steps.
1. Observe Witnesses
During the Cross-Examination youwill have a number of commands(Press, Present, Question) at yourdisposal to search out anycontradictions in the testimony.

When the faces of thewitnesses are shownas icons on the TouchScreen, slide themagnifying glass overthe icons to observe the witnesses.
2. Select a Witness toQuestionUse the magnifyingglass to select awitness, then touch
to question theselected witness.
Present
Touch toopen the CourtRecord (p. 16) orGrand Grimoire(p. 17) if you findan inconsistencybetween atestimony and theevidence. You canthen select evidence to present. Ifthe presented evidence is relevant,you may prompt furtherdevelopment in the case or may geta new testimony.

Use a Hint
Touch to use the hintfunction. You can activate it as manytimes as you like during a trial, buteach time you do it will cost youone hint coin.
Depending on theavailable evidence,it may be necessaryto uncover eventhe smallest ofinconsistencies. Slide the magnifyinglens over the evidence and searchfor anything suspicious, thenpresent your findings.
16 Court Record
Touch during the Cross-Examination to view the availableevidence and profiles. Use itregularly to check up on and confirmwhat the witnesses are claiming. Toclose the Court Record and returnto the previous screen, touch BACK.
Touch an item in theevidence list to viewmore details on it.Touch toenlarge the piece ofevidence to check it morethoroughly.
Touch whenviewing the evidencelist to view informationon people related tothe events. Touch acharacter to view their details.

17 Grand Grimoire
As you progress in the story, a bookcalled the Grand Grimoire will comeinto your possession. This bookcontains magical records and willcome in handy when you'represented with a magic-relatedtestimony. The information recordedin this tome can be presented asevidence in the same way asevidence from the Court Record.
