[57] Abstract:

Copper or a copper alloy each characterized by having an a-ray emission of 0.001 cph/cm2 or less. As recent semiconductor devices have been made to have a higher density and a higher capacity, soft errors are more apt to occur therein because of the influence of a rays emitted from materials present in the vicinity of the semiconductor chips. In particular, the copper or copper alloys which are to be used in the vicinity of semiconductor devices, such as copper or copper-alloy wire leads, copper or copper-alloy bonding wires, and soldering materials, are strongly required to have a higher purity. There is also a need for a material reduced in a-ray emission. The present invention hence addresses the problems of elucidating the phenomenon in which copper or copper alloys emit a rays and of obtaining both copper or a copper alloy and a bonding wire formed from the copper or copper alloy as a raw material, the copper or copper alloy having been reduced in a-ray emission and being applicable to the desired material.

[57] Abstract:

The present invention discloses a process for the production of chondroitin sulphate with an average molecular weight (Mw) of 10-30 kDa by chemical sulphation starting from an unsulphated chondroitin backbone, obtained in turn by acid hydrolysis of capsular polysaccharide K4 made directly from E. coli strain O5:K4:H4, or directly produced from a genetically modified strain of E. coli. Sulphation of the N-acetyl-D-galactosamine residue at position 4 or 6 takes place simultaneously in the same polysaccharide chain, simulating the sulphation pattern observed in natural chondroitin sulphate, unlike the sulphation obtained with the synthesis methods described to date.

[57] Abstract:

The present invention provides antibodies that bind big-endothelin-1 ("big-ET-1"), and methods of using same. According to certain embodiments of the invention, the antibodies specifically bind human big-ET-1 but do not bind human small-ET-1 (i.e., the active form of endothelin-1 that results from proteolytic cleavage of big-ET-1 by endothelin-converting enzyme-1 [ECE-1]). According to certain embodiments of the invention, the anti-big-ET-1 antibodies are capable of blocking cleavage of big-ET-1 by ECE-1. The antibodies of the invention are useful for the treatment of big-ET-1-related disorders, including hypertension disorders, fibrotic disorders, neurodegenerative disorders, retinal disorders, pain and cancers.

[57] Abstract:

Unsaturated fatty alcohol alkoxylates, processes for making them, and methods of using them are disclosed. In one aspect, a monounsaturated fatty alcohol alkoxylate is made by reducing a metathesis-derived monounsaturated alkyl ester, followed by alkoxylation of the resulting monounsaturated alcohol. Microscopy reveals that the monounsaturated alkoxylates have isotropic and lamellar phases over a wider range of actives levels compared with their saturated analogs. This attribute expands formulating latitude for many end-use applications. The unsaturated fatty alcohol alkoxylates are valuable in, for example, agricultural solvents, nonionic emulsifiers for agricultural compositions, hard surface cleaners, laundry detergents, specialty foams, additives or surfactants for paints or coatings, and surfactant compositions for enhanced oil recovery.

[57] Abstract:

The present disclosure relates to a device and method for reducing quantization noise in a signal contained in a time-domain excitation decoded by a time-domain decoder. The decoded time-domain excitation is converted into a frequency-domain excitation. A weighting mask is produced for retrieving spectral information lost in the quantization noise. The frequency- domain excitation is modified to increase spectral dynamics by application of the weighting mask. The modified frequency-domain excitation is converted into a modified time-domain excitation. The method and device can be used for improving music content rendering of linear-prediction (LP) based codecs. Optionally, a synthesis of the decoded time-domain excitation may be classified into one of a first set of excitation categories and a second set of excitation categories, the second set including INACTIVE or UNVOICED categories, the first set including an OTHER category.
