PUBLIC JOURNALISM

Themes in the News. Co-Author and editor. Each Friday, UCLA IDEA produces a commentary on one education policy issue that has risen to prominence in the week’s news. The weekly commentary draws on research to illuminate current policy debates and points to the broader significance of emerging news stories for equity educational reform and social change. Themes in the News is distributed via email to more than 1000 subscribers, including researchers, elected officials, policy analysts, advocates, and educational reporters. In addition, it is often picked up and re-posted in other blogs. Themes in the News has been published weekly since March 2009.

Teaching to Change LA (TCLA), Founding Editor. TCLA is an online journal that addresses educational conditions in Los Angeles schools. K-12 students, parents, teachers, researchers, and elected officials provide the content for the journal, which is published by UCLA/IDEA. Journal readers include those who learn and teach in Los Angeles schools, local and state policymakers and legislators, and readers from across the country. TCLA has had more than 1 million visitors since its founding in December 2000. (Since 2006, TCLA continues as Learning Power News.)
