Tribal Secretary Report
Wow this year is almost over and Christmas time is here already. The Tribal Thanksgiving dinner was
festive and fun with all the turkey calls and giveaways. I want to thank all those in the community who
contributed in making the Thanksgiving meal.
I continue the day to day work that is required of this office. Working on the meeting minutes and
resolutions by keeping them current. Also, making sure our records are up-to-date so that we have the
ability to locate records in a timely manner.
The Council, tribal attorney and technical support staff is working on the Law and Order Code to
update and make revisions that are needed to better serve justice to our people and address the safety
of tribal and community members; and also to address new and revised Federal regulation. Title 1 is
complete and has been posted for public review and comment.

Victim Services hosted a moccasin
making traditional arts and craft activity
held on Monday, November 13, 2017 at
6:00 p.m. at the Head Start building. Vic-
tim Services purchased the supplies
needed, as parents hand-crafted mocca-
sin’s from scraps of single piece soft-
tanned leather, a needle and thick thread.
As they began the art of making soft sole
traditional moccasins for their children,
they were assembled inside out to hide
the stitching in the finished footwear.
The kids loved their new moccasins, just
in time for the winter. Victim Services
would like to thank all the parents who
came out to participate in making mocca-
sins.

I AM NOT A TURKEY…………….
At E.C. Best Elementary School, Tribal
Member Mia Vannoy, 7 years old, worked on
one of her favorite fall projects as she made
a colorful Stillwater Turkey Disguise. She
had a paper cut out turkey and was instruct-
ed to dress him up somehow so he doesn’t
look like a turkey and will presumably, with
her own creativity success, escape his fate
on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
These turkeys are in full disguise so that
they will not be the guest of honor at the
Thanksgiving feast.
Congratulations Mia

MEDICAL CLINIC HIGHLIGHTS
The Fallon Tribal Health Clinic strives to provide quality health
care for the Fallon Paiute Shoshone community. It is with this
goal in mind that changes in procedures have been initiated.
APPOINTMENTS:
ARRIVE EARLY. At least 30-minutes prior to your medical
appointment. NEW patients should arrive 45 minutes early.
If patients are 10 minutes or more late for their medical
appointment, they will be re-scheduled.
WALK-IN REQUESTS. Two hours each day will be left
un-appointed. Walk-In requests will be prioritized by
Medical staff. Please check with the Medical Receptionist
for Walk-In status BEFORE you complete the Patient
Registration process.
PURPOSE OF APPOINTMENT. Clinic staff will contact
patients to confirm/verify the nature of the appointment.
Please state if you need a medication refill. To reduce the
“Wait Time” of other patients waiting to see the same
Provider, the appointment will address only the confirmed
nature of the visit. Other topics will be addressed at future
visits. This will help the Provider stay on-time with all
scheduled visits, thereby reducing time spent waiting for an
appointment with a Provider.
PHARMACY
Do you need a medication refill? Please read the label on
your medication. It will state the amount of REFILLS
remaining. If the label states 1 of 4, you have refills
remaining and you may get your refill. If the label states this
is 4 of 4, you CANNOT GET A REFILL. You will need to
make an appointment with your provider for a
RENEWAL ON YOUR MEDICATION before you can
receive more medication. Please monitor your medication,
do not wait until you are out of medication to request more.
Your friendly Pharmacy staff is here to provide accurate and
knowledgeable services. They are happy to help you with
any medication questions you may have. If you need refills,
please call Kent, Laura, or Tyrone at 423-3634 at least
24-hours in advance. Remember to stop by Pharmacy to get
your medications after your clinic visit.

Ways to Avoid Relapse during this Holiday Season
The holidays are a time to eat, drink, and be merry, but what if you’re in recov-
ery? You don’t need alcohol, marijuana or any other substance to jingle your
bells this holiday season. You do need a plan to cope with stressors that come
with the holidays and maintain recovery. Here are some suggestions:
1. Know your emotional and mental triggers. Practice anger and stress management.
2. Rehearse responses for turning down alcoholic drinks and other substances.
3. Lean on your support system. Surround yourself with sober friends and
family and/or attend extra 12-step meetings.
4. Learn to move past your cravings. A craving only lasts about 20 minutes, so
if you can stay strong for a short period, the urge should pass. Move to a
different setting, meditate, pray, exercise or breathe deeply.
Remember how much is at risk if you give into your craving.

One Text Or Call Could Wreck It All
Texting and driving is one of the most dangerous forms of distracted
driving. At any given moment across America, approximately 660,000
drivers are using or manipulating electronic devices while driving, a
number that has held steady since 2010. Distracted driving has become a
deadly epidemic on America’s roadways.
3,154 people were killed in 2013 and an estimated 424,000 injured in
motor vehicle crashes that involved distracted drivers. Our youngest and
most inexperienced drivers are most at risk, with 10% of all distracted
driving crashes involving drivers under the age of 20.
