CHAPTER I

Self Declaration

I am presenting the research thesis on MARRIAGE and causes of DIVORCE titled “How to

find indications for divorce in marriage” as part of my original research for submission to

AIFAS Jyotish Rishi coursework.

I declare that I have myself conducted primary research among 40 legally divorced females

living in India to arrive at the conclusions. I solemnly declare that all the information given in

the project report has been researched by me and no part of the project report has been copied

or translated from any other printed material, internet sources or existing project report.

I have given due citation to authors whenever I have referred to any source of knowledge

this project, inspite of being such a sensitive matter. To maintain their privacy, I have not

used any names and only used alpha-numeric lettering to identify them in this paper.

CHAPTER III

Abstract - Goal of research

Yada Sikha mayuranam naganam manayo yada

Astrology is supreme among Vedic sciences just like the peacock’s tail and the gem on the

head of the snake. It is one of the main vedangas. It’s a Sasanath Sashtramuchyate, which

means it’s the sashtra which dictates itself and hence is the proof. Jyotisham or astrology is

nothing but time management which is an effect of the karma theory. Karma siddantha says

whatever deeds you may have done in the previous births, its impact will be experienced in

the current births. By analysing our past and present karma through the manifestation of the

influence of the planets, signs and nakshatras in our lives, , Jyotisham is used to tell the

future. You can influence your past by positive actions and can overcome negative effects of

past karma through right actions and remedies.

Marriage is the most important social contract human beings enter into. One ceremony and

legal signing of documents can lead to a whole new life where we chose a partner to share

our lives with. And here, we have the importance of Jyotisham to help us make sure we have

made the right decision. Jyotish means path of light which helps us understand out past

karma and its impact on this life. Jyotish has been a part of the six limbs of the vedas and

hence its importance cannot be undermined even in this modern age. By using Jyotish



especially for marriage match making, we can ensure the prevention of the breakdown of

society due to huge increase of divorces.

But in today’s new age, the young generation tends to disregard all advice and choose their

marriage partner based purely on emotional and physical reasons. No proper care is taken to

ensure that the match selected is right for the person and will lead to a happy union for

lifetime.

Hence it is very important to conduct research and show empirical evidence as to why it is

important to match charts and also evaluate each horoscope for yogas denoting separation

and divorce. Only when such research is done on a larger scale, can we manage to convince

the new generation through hard researched data as to why divorces occur and how to chose

wisely in order to avoid such predicaments in their life. Therefore I present my humble

contribution in furthering this knowledge and providing evidence in order to prove the age

old vedic knowledge of Jyotisham is relevant and very apt even today, to judge the success

of each and every marriage.



CHAPTER IV

Match making of astrological charts in marriage and why it is important

Marriage is a relationship of two families and not just two individuals which exists for the

entire life ahead. It is critical that two people of same temperament should bind themselves

together under its holy union. Unlike the cinema, marriage is not only done on emotional

sentiments and love but also should be conducted for societal, moral, religious,values and

social principles.

The Benefits of marriage :

It helps people live long. Single people die sooner and lonelier.

Our Shastras stipulate that married life is to be enjoyed and its duties to be followed than life

long celibate life.

The married partner is just not for pleasure and companionship. She especially the women

have duties towards keeping society and civilisation going and nurturing values and

principles for the next generation. She is like inviting home Goddess Lakshmi. If she is not

respected, the family does not thrive but the household where she is valued , that family

prospers and is happy.

But we need to choose well for our marriage partner and go beyond appearances and

behaviour. If the woman is not co-operative and amicable , and she turns out to be a

quarrelling and aggressive person who will not want to play an equal role in the marriage,

that marriage will suffer.



On the other hand if the man is chauvinistic, stubborn, not hard working , dictatorial, lazy and

lacks ambition, that marriage is also doomed from the start.

Every body wants to have a happy and loving wedded life. However, in this modern age and

times, this does not occur. Number of troubled couples is ever expanding, tolerance and

adjustment is becoming less and less leading to divorces and acrimony.

Hence a proper matching of charts for marriage is essential and can lessen marital

disharmony to a decent degree. So before marriage, horoscope of bride and groom ought to

be verified whether both the charts are supporting to each other and whether happy married

life will follow.

The Holy Vedas shows us that a married life is endorsed over a life of celibacy. Hence match

making through astrological charts is the first step toward a happy married life.



Steps to do match making using astrology for a successful marriage

1. Life span : We should check the life span of both lady and groom and ascertain their

longitivity. What is the point of marrying if either do not have a long life. There should be

no alpa ayu yogas in their charts.

2. Wellbeing : Health is riches. We should judge the Health prospect of both. We should

check whether there is any plausibility of serious ailment in their charts. Couple with

physical weakness or diseases will not be able to enjoy their married life.

3. Money : Wealth is an imperative factor for carrying on with a decent life. Destitution will

bring torments and will annihilate the joy of wedded life. So we should check both the

Horoscope that they do not have Poverty Yogas or daridra Yogas.

4. Future : One may conceived poor. Be that as it may, the future might be much

encouraging. In such case we should look to search whether there is any brilliant fate of

the couple and marriage ought to be suggested if such factors are found.

5. Children When we judge the Horoscope for marriage, this is a vital factor which we

should keep in our brain. No Horoscope ought to have any burden to children.



6. Common Understanding: One may have long life, parcel of cash, sound wellbeing

however in the event that there is no shared understanding between the couple, the

wedded life progresses towards a sad ending.



CHAPTER V Indication of separation or causes of divorce as per

Note - Divorce being treated as result of adultery or loss of wife as divorce as a concept did not exist in ancient times.

SLOKA 1.

It is from the 7th bhava .that an astrologer can divine all about any journey a person may undertake, his eons, his wives and his enjoyment. When Venus is in the 7th bhava or the lord thereof is in conjunction with Rahu or Ketu, the person born will become an adulterer.

SLOKA 4. If the 7th house or its lord be associated with.'aspected by. or posited between malefic or be in depression or in dual sign or be eclipsed by the Sun's rays, one ought to predict loss of wife. Venus in conjunction with a malefic occupying the 7th, 5ih or 9th bouse will make the native bereft of a wife.

SLOKA 6. If the lord of the 7th house be in the 1st, the native will lose his wife or become son-less. The loss of the wife is certain if the lord of the 5th or the 8th house Happens to be in the 7th. If the waning Moon be in the 7th and malefics should occupy the 12th, the 7th and the Ist houses, the person will be bereft of wife.

SLOKA 7. If the 7th bhava from the Lagna in the case of males, or the 1st bhava in the case of women, 'be either in Mars house and if the planet owning the amsa of the 7th bhava. be either weak or eclipsed, the woman concerned will be a servant-maid or will become vicious in her youth, and will be abandoned by her husband.



SLOKA 11 When the 7th bhava is occupied by a malefic or an invisible subsidiary planet (Upagraha fide Adhyaya 3 sloka 6), the wife will be wicked. If the Sun occupy it, she will prove barren ; if it is the Waning Moon, she will be unfaithful.

कलत्रपो िबना स्वक्र्ष व्ययषष्ठाष्टभिस्थतः।

रोिगणी कुरुते नारी तथा तुंगनकिदृकं िबना।। Ch. 20.2)

When the 7th lord is placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th house and is not in its own sign or in its sign of exaltation, it indicates a sickly spouse.

कलत्रे तत्परो वाऽिप पापग्रहसमिन्वते।

भायार्हािनं वदेत् तस्य िनबर्ल ेच िवशेषतः।।(Ch, 20.16)

When the 7th house and its lord are devoid of strength and in conjunction with malefic planets, the astrologers should predict loss of native' spouse.

षषे्ठ च भवेन भौमः सप्तमे राहुसंिस्थित।

अष्टमे च यदा सौिरस्तस्य भायार् न जीवित।।(Ch, 20.17)

The native's spouse does not live long when Mars is in 6th, Rahu in 7th and Saturn in the 8th house.

Upapada Lagna - If influenced by benefics – full happiness from wife and sons. If influenced by malefics – ascetic, mendicant, without wife. Sun is not malefic (if not in bad avastha)

2nd from Upapada Lagna - Debilitated / Debilitated Amsa / Malefic planet – destroyer of wife. Exalted / Exalted Amsa / Exalted benefic- charming and virtuous wives.

If Gemini – many wives.

If Upapada Lagna Lord or 2 from UL Lord is in own sign – death of wife in advanced age

बुध सूयर्सुतौ नपुंसकारव्यौ।(Ch II.6)

The conjunction or aspect of Saturn on Mercury in the 7th house leads to unhappy marriage, as these are impotent planets.

Chapter 23 Anishtadhyaya (misfortunes)

Stanza 1:

If the 5th and 7th houses from lagna or Moon be occupied or aspected by benefics or their lords, then these bhavas will prosper; if not, they’ll suffer. If the birth is in Virgo with Sun in it, the wife will be lost.

Stanza 2:

If cruel planets are in the 4th and the 8th from Venus or if Venus is between malefics or if Venus isn’t combined or not aspected by benefics, the wife will be killed by fire, fall or ropes.

Stanza 3:

If the 6th and 12th houses from lagna are occupied by Sun and Moon, the husband and wife will have one eye each. If Venus and Sun occupy the 7th, 9th or 5th, the wife will be defective.

Stanza 4:

If Saturn occupies lagna, Venus in the 7th when it’s in gandantha and if the 5th is unoccupied by benefics, the person will become the husband of a barren woman. If malefics occupy the 12th, 7th and lagna with weak Moon in the 5th, the person will have no wife or son.

Stanza 5:

If Venus is in 7th, which happens to be the varga of Mars or Saturn and aspected by them, the person becomes fond of other women. If Saturn and Mars join Moon in the 7th and have the aspect of Venus, the person and his wife will both become adulterous. If Venus and Moon have Mars and Saturn in 7th, the person becomes wifeless or issueless.



Stanza 6:

If the 10th, 7th and 4th are occupied by Moon, Venus and malefics respectively, the person destroys his family.

When the 7th house lord and its Karka Venus are debilitated, conjoined with malefics, and are devoid of benefic influences, the native faces problems in marriage and gets a bad wife/(husband)

When weak Moon is located in the 7th house with Saturn or other malefic planet, the native is adulterous. So is the case if the lord of 7th house is located in Lagna with a malefic.

कामे वा सुतभाग्ययोिवर् कल दारो ऽसौ सपाप ेभृगौ।

शुके्र वा कुजमन्दवगर्सिहते दृष्ट ेपरस्तीरतः।।(Ch.10.4)

When Venus is associated with a malefic and occupies 7th, 5th or 9th house, the wife/(husband) of the native is disabled.

When Venus occupies the Varga of Mars or Saturn or aspected by either of these, the native is sure to have intimacy with the wife/(husband) of others.

भायार्नाशस्तवशुभसिहतौ वीिक्षतौ वाथर्कामौ।

तत्रप्राहुस्त्वशुभफलदां कू्ररदृिषं्ट िवशेषात्।।(Ch10.7)

When the 2nd and 7th houses are occupied or aspected by malefic planets, there will be loss of wife. Similar result about the husband may be predicted from wife's chart when the 7th and 8th houses are likewise afflicted.

नीचािरभस्थैर शुभैमर्दे स्त्री पुंसोमृर्ित स्यािन्नधने वा।(Ch S1.8)

If inauspicious planets in their fall or inimical houses are placed in the 7th, 8th or 2nd house, the death of wife or husband should be predicted as the case may be.

21. The main Houses to see divorce (Source Jataka Parijata )

The main houses for a marriage happiness or sorrow and for judging divorce in astrology are

4th house, 7th house, 8th house and 12th house. Apart from this, we need to check Jamini

astrology to check Upapada Lagna(UL) and second house from Upapada Lagna. The second

house from Upapada Lagna shows the stability or sustenance of the marriage. If the 2nd from

UL is having malefic planets like Rahu, Mars or aspect of Malefic planets, it shows the

divorce chance in astrology.

4th house is happiness from Family. When 4th house or 4th Lord is afflicted, there is no

happiness got from family. If the 4th house is strong and 4th lord is well placed, divorce will

not take place even if there are other indications for divorce in the charts.

7th house is the Main House for Marriage. So if the 7th house is afflicted and 7th lord is a

weak lord due to malefic placements or malefic influences of other planets, it can be

predicted that the individual is unable to enjoy a happy marriage.

If 8th house is afflicted or 8th lord makes connection with 7th lord or house or malefic aspect

or are posited in it, then it spoils the marriage and conjugal happiness.

12th house is known as the house for bed pleasures. It’s the house of loss and hence any

connection with any other house results in loss for that house. It also indicates residence

abroad and away from native place. If 12th house makes a connection with 4th house,

marriage suffers as its a loss of happiness. If 12th lord or house is afflicted or influenced by

malefic then bed pleasures suffer.
