SMALL KINDNESSES

BACKGROUND FOR SURAH

• The people of Makkah did not believe that they were responsible to Allah swt for their actions.

• They did not believe that they would be punished or rewarded in the next world.

• They thought they could do anything they wanted.

• Hence Allah swt revealed this Surah.

• Ara’ayta : Have you seen• Alladhi : Those• Yukaadhdhibu : who deny• bid din : Religion or day of Judgement

Have you seen the one who denies the religion

• This surah begins with a question which means Do you know who he is?’

• A person who does denies Ad din is he who does not believe in religion or day of Judgement

What is Day of Judgement?

• A day we do not know when it will come

• Allah will look at our book of deeds

What is book of deeds

• There are two angels who are writing every action we do.

• All our good and bad ones are written down.

On the day of judgement

• Our books will be weighed and who has lot of good deeds will go to Jannah

• The one who has lot of bad deeds will go to jahannam

What kind of a person is one who denies the Day of Judgement

• Allah swt tells us some of his Characteristics

• Let us see what they are

AYAH 2

• Fa dhalika : That is the one

• Alladhi : Who

• Yadu : Drive away

• Yatim : Orphan

Who is an Orphan

• Orphans are those children who do not have one or both parents.

• These people who do not believe in religion do not bother for the orphans and behave badly with them.

What did we learn so far

• Allah is telling us about People who do not believe in Day of Judgement are the following people:

• 1) They do not care about Orphans

• Let us now see what other things they do.

• Wa la : And Not

• Yahuddu : Urges/ makes other people do• Ala : Upon

• Ta’ ami : Feeding• Al miskeen : The poor

Explanation

• They seem to be selfish, greedy or careless about others who need help.

• Neither they do it themselves nor encourage their family.

• They think they will lose their money if they spend on the hungry.

Hadith

• Rasullullah saw told us that “ Money spent in the way of Allah does not decrease our wealth but increases it.”

Ayah 4 and 5

• Fawaylul : So woe be( sorrow and sadness)

• Musallin : people who pray

• Aladhina hum: those who

• Salatihim Sahun : unmindful of Salah

What does unmindful of Salah means

• Delaying Salah from their appointed times, eg they Let me finish watching this show then I will pray.

• Or, when they rise up for the Prayer, they rise up soullessly and perform it with an unwilling heart,

Ayah 6

• Alladhina hum: those who

• Yuraoon : (do good) only to be seen.

Two meaning of being seen

• In the first case, it would mean that they do not perform any act of goodness with a pure intention for the sake of Allah

• but whatever they do , they do to be seen of others so that they are praised, and considered good.

• In the second case, the meaning would be that they pray to be seen.

Ayah 7 And withhold small kindnesses

• They do not do small acts of kindness which are easy to do.

• For eg• A) lending your pencil if someone needs it• B) Sharing your toys• C) Sharing good words• D) Helping some one with his load• E) Opening the door for some one.

What did you learn from the Surah

• In our daily lives we should not become like such people. We do salat but salat alone will not help us.

• Believers are kind and generous• They help orphans and poor people.• We make Salah only to worship Allah swt not

to show off.
