form. APRIL 6th, 6:30-8:00pm, parents will have an opportunity to attend an

informational meeting at AES, on this class and view the film that will be

A Message from Project Lead the Way

2nd grade has begun learning about coding with Scratch Jr. They are learning how using loops

can cut down on the amount of code one needs. They are also starting to learn about the

screen as a grid.

3rd graders are starting their new module on simple machines. They are being introduced to

the VEX kits and will be building some simple machines when they come back from break.

4th grade students are working on their final problem. They were given a motor, wires, and an

LED. They are tasked with using energy conversion to light up the LED.

5th grade’s robotics units are coming to an end. They are working on their final challenge in

which they must program a robot to deliver medical supplies to certain places in a hospital (or

in our case blocks to specific zones).

Fifth grade students finished chalk flowers inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe. They will be creating classroom murals when we return from break.

Fourth grade students finished VanGogh inspired drawings. They will also complete thier grade level mural when we return.

Third grade students were introduced to the artist Keith Haring. They are beginning movement/figure drawings inspired by him.

Second grade students have been creating paper layer versions of their homes for use in a mural about community.

Students in 4th and 5th need to be practicing their recorders as they will be performing Recorder

Karate Belt tests after the break. 4th and 5th grade students are listening to music this week

relating to Impressionism. This is music that paints a picture in your mind as you listen to it. The

students discussed what kind of mood the music created for them and talked about what kind of

picture it created in their mind. Next they explained how that picture could be created musically.

2nd and 3rd grade students are currently discussing Animusic, the computer generated video set to

classical music. The students then discussed which would be easier for them –

creating the music first then the animation or creating the animation followed by

creating the music.

PBIS at Petty - What’s the PBIS School Store?

PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports) is the framework that Petty uses to reinforce our school wide behavioral expectations: be responsible, be respectful, and be safe. To reinforce these ex-pectations, students work hard to earn Bobcat Bucks from staff and each month, they can use their bucks at the School Store (the last Friday of each month). Your child might purchase toys and/or privi-lege coupons at the store. We encourage families to celebrate their child’s success and rewards for con-sistently following our school expectations!

pated in the St. Baldrick’s challenge. St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events began as a

challenge between businessmen and have grown from one event in 2000 to over 1,200

events in 2016, raising critical funds for childhood cancer research. Events take place in
